Apple releases new ads for the Mac

Posted in: Desktop computers, Mac OS X July 28th, 2012, 15:02 by Prasad It’s been quite a while since Apple released ads for the Mac. All the recent memorable ads have either been for the iPhone or the iPad. In fact the last memorable ads for the Mac were the famous ‘Mac vs. PC’ series and it’s been three years since those came out. But now that Apple recently updated their MacBooks, they probably felt it was the right time to go ahead and make some new ads. So now we have three new ads for the Mac that don’t concentrate on any particular model, but like the older ‘Mac vs. PC’ ads aim to glorify the Macs as a whole and all the features they have. They also fail spectacularly at doing that. The new ads have an Apple Store Genius going around helping people with their Macs. The first ad is in an airplane, the second is where the Genius helps his neighbor with something and the third where a guy accidentally buys something that he thought was a Mac. The first two ad are supposed to show...

Windows Phone 8 emulator confirms rumored built-in screenshot feature

Posted in: Windows Phone July 29th, 2012, 13:47 by Kyle Many people were unhappy with the Windows Phone 7 lack of native screenshot capture support. It wasn’t the WP7’s deal breaker, but still it was a feature the competition was offering for quite some time. It seems Microsoft took the complaints seriously and Windows Phone 8 has native support for taking screenshots. The Windows Phone 8 emulator confirmed we will be able to take screenshots on the new Window Phones. It’s done by pressing the Start and the Camera keys, just as rumored (F2 and F7 in the emulator). The shots are saved in a dedicated Screenshots folder in the Picture Hub. We, as reviewers, are really happy to see this feature implemented into the WP8. We are sure developers would also appreciate it. But what about you, the regular users? Source • Via View the original article here

Situation: positive – make your Symbian smartphone do the thinking for you

Situations is a Symbian app for making your smartphone a bit more intelligent. At the core of the app is the ability to define situations that change your phone’s settings depending on the context. To give two examples: If I am at home (which the phone knows from its GPS co-ordinates) and it’s after 11pm, then switch all the ringtones to silent until 6am.When I arrive at the office, switch on the WiFi and start my News Reader app. The app was originally created as a Nokia Beta Labs experiment, but has now been spun off and continues to be developed as a commercial application by Pastilli Labs, founded by Roope Tassberg and Heikki Haveri. We spoke to Roope to find out more. “We’re a very small development company based in Tampere in Finland. At the moment, Situations is a spare time project. “But it seems very important to us. We call these things smartphones, but why don’t they do things for us? We want to let people get more out of their phones.”   The relaunch of Situations called f...

Digital desires and Connected Cars: the future of auto

The concept of the Connected Car – which is based on computer and sensor technology to make driving more of a pleasure – is getting a lot of attention these days. Far from being a futuristic concept, many elements are here already and others are very close indeed to becoming a reality. Many foundational elements are common in a car’s dashboard functionality today – streaming music from our phone, built-in navigation systems and phone call accessibility can all be controlled from the steering wheel. More advanced applications include traffic-enabled navigation systems and Places of Interest (POI) search capability for restaurants and parking locations. The technology that will be brought to market in the near future will focus on deeper personalisation, which will be powered by what many call intelligent technology . Industry research findings show that the next generation of drivers are ready for it. A recent survey by JCI found that people in their 30s and younger wanted full connect...

Microsoft announces Windows 8 accessories, meet the Wedge Mobile Keyboard and Wedge Touch Mouse

Posted in: Various, Windows 18 hours ago by Vince Windows 8 is coming in the end of October and to ensure its adoption goes as smooth as possible, Microsoft has announced the new Wedge Mobile Keyboard and Wedge Touch Mouse. The Wedge Mobile Keyboard keyboard is meant for tablets so it isn’t some simple Bluetooth keyboard with Windows 8-specific keys. No, it comes with a special cover which hides some nifty tricks under its sleeve. Firstly, the cover acts as an on/off switch for the keyboard itself. So when its removed, the keyboard automatically turns on, which as a result saves on battery life. Once it’s off the keyboard, the cover can fold in half to create a stand for your Windows 8 running tablet. In addition, the back of the keyboard has a handy grip allowing you to place it against a tablet and carry it around. Scratches are unlikely due to the cover’s soft rubbery surface. The Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard will retail for $79.95 and will be globally available in the coming w...

Samsung reportedly squeezed out 350 ppi out of an OLED display panel

Posted in: Mobile hardware July 29th, 2012, 20:04 by Stefan It looks like Samsung is about to answer all critics of the PenTile natured displays of the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S III in an adequate fashion. The Korean giant has reportedly squeezed out the jaw dropping 350ppi out of an AMOLED display with RGB stripe. The feat has been accomplished in laboratory test, via the application of fine metal mask technology, which is a departure of the, currently used by Samsung, laser-induced thermal imaging method. Naturally, we hope that the new tech makes it to production as soon as possible. After all the possibility of 350ppi display sporting Samsung smartphone will surely be tempting to many.
