Google giving away Nexus Q for free to all who have pre-ordered it, proper launch delayed

Posted in: Android, Misc gadgets 21 hours ago by Prasad It seems Google has finally realized no one really wants a $300 bowling ball whose only real abilities are streaming your music and movies from the cloud while completely ignoring all the content on your Android smartphone or tablet and using them just as a glorified remote control. So now they have done the sensible thing and suspended the launch of the device by removing it from the Play Store. Meanwhile, they are working on making it “do even more than it does today”, which is not much. But what happens to those who have pre-ordered it? Well, they are about to get lucky as Google has announced that those who pre-ordered the Nexus Q will be getting the current version of the device for free – just like the devs, who attended the recent Google I/O conference, where the Nexus Q was announced. Here’s the full statement by Google, as quoted by AndroidPolice.com : We have an important update about your Nexus Q pre-order. When we an...

Manage your calls, messaging and data use with Counters

Published by Adam Fraser on August 1, 2012 Keeping track of your monthly allowance of data, SMS and phone calls is tough – we’re all far too busy to be counting up those types of things. New Beta Labs app Counters for Nokia Lumia now keeps a track on these things for you. Download Counters now Press the Search button on your Nokia Lumia and then tap VisionScan the barcodeTap on the link when it appears on the screenInstall the application from the Windows Phone Marketplace When going about your business on your phone it’s important not to go over your allowance. If you do, you’ll end up shelling out more money to the networks next time your bill comes around and nobody wants that to happen (except for the networks, of course). To stop that from happening you’ll need to let Counters know how many minutes in calls you’re allowed to make, how many text messages you can send and how many MB or GB you’re allowed to use when browsing the Web when not connected to WiFi. Every time you make a...

Microsoft replaces Hotmail with Outlook.com, gets a million new users in a few hours

Microsoft has launched the new Outlook.com, which replaces the existing Hotmail webmail service. The new website makes good use of the Metro UI and also offers users to switch from their current @hotmail.com email addresses to @outlook.com addresses. Upon opening the new website you’ll notice just how clean and uncluttered the UI is. In fact, it’s so minimalistic that at first glance you’d think you accidentally opened the mobile version of the website. On the left you have your usual folder list including items such as Inbox, Junk, Drafts, etc. You can right-click on these to access additional options, such as marking all mails as read or creating a new folder. On the top you have the Outlook logo with a drop-down menu that lets you switch to your contacts, calendar or SkyDrive account. Weirdly, though, only the Contacts page uses the new Metro UI, whereas the Calendar and SkyDrive app use the same old Hotmail style UI. Worse still, once you switch over to these services, there is no...

The other tablets which are slated to receive the update next month are: Samsung claim that the update will address various stability issues, as well as improve performance. While this is, unfortunately, not the most recent version of Android available (no Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for now), it’s still a step in the right direction.
