You can catch the Microsoft MWC Monday event online

Microsoft is all set for the MWC 2015. The company has just revealed it will be holding a press conference Monday, March 2 early in the morning. More specifically, the Redmond company will be sharing its new products 8:30am CET (that's 1 March 23:30PST). Microsoft is quite probably going to focus on the Lumia 635 with bumped specs. The Lumia 1330 is also expected to make a debut. It is tipped to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, 1GB of RAM, and 5.7" 720p display, and 32GB of onboard storage. The device's main camera is said to be a 14MP PureView unit, coupled with a 5MP front-facing snapper. We won't be surprised if the Redmond company reveals its future plans for its mobile software and services. Recently, Microsoft launched an Android tablet keyboard, so we may be in for a wild ride on this front. Microsoft's live stream follows those of HTC and Samsung. They're happening on Sunday, so be sure to mark them on your calendars. Source View the original artic...

Microsoft Lumia 1330/1335 certified by FCC, dummies arrive in India

The successor to the midrange Lumia 1320 phablet is closely approaching. Apparently Microsoft is preparing its launch in India, as evidenced by dummy import documents. What is likely going to be called Lumia 1330/1335 will hit the market in no less than three color schemes. Orange will be the lead color, outnumbering the rest 7 to 1. Less striking options are white and cyan, and the latter we've already seen, if only only as a back cover. Globally speaking, the upcoming midranger will exist in multiple variants, and three are known so far. Intel on two of those comes from FCC database, showing the regulator has green-lighted the RM-1065 and RM-1064 models. The former is the more exciting one, as it will pack dual SIM capability and support LTE. The RM-1064 will be largely the same device, only ditching the second SIM card. The RM-1062, that will arrive in India, as evidenced by the 8,000 units, will lose the 4G connectivity. We previously reported on the alleged specs of the Lumi...

Microsoft and Samsung ended their dispute over royalties

Samsung and Microsoft announced that they have put an end to their dispute over Android royalty payments. Terms of the agreement are confidential. Here is the full text of the joint release from the two tech giants: ?Samsung and Microsoft are pleased to announce that they have ended their contract dispute in U.S. court as well as the ICC arbitration. Terms of the agreement are confidential.? Microsoft took Samsung to court in August last year after the Korean giant stopped payments of Android royalties. Samsung argued that the acquisition of Nokia made Microsoft a direct competitor. An end of the legal dispute means that Samsung might return to making Windows-powered smartphones. Last month, a word got out that the manufacturer is keen on making affordable handsets, which utilize Microsoft's mobile platform. Source View the original article here

Dual-SIM Microsoft Lumia 435 is now available in India

The Microsoft Lumia 435, which was unveiled in mid-January, has today become available to buy in India. We're talking about the dual-SIM version of the handset, which is currently being offered in white and black by Microsoft's online store for the subcontinent. Green and orange color versions were also presented during the phone's official unveiling, but so far those have not been launched in India. Perhaps they will arrive in the future. If you want to buy a Lumia 435 from Microsoft, you need to pay INR 5,999. At the current exchange rates, that means $96 or ?85. That's pretty close to the ?70 price before taxes that Microsoft touted last month. The software giant's Indian online store claims you'll receive your brand new Lumia 435 in 4 working days if you order one. In this instance, the price is low because the hardware isn't anything to get excited about. The Lumia 435 sports a 4-inch 480x800 touchscreen, a 2 MP rear camera, and a VGA secondary shoote...

Microsoft could bring Android app support to Windows, Windows Phone

Software giant 'seriously considering' Android app support, reports The Verge Future Windows Phone handsets and Windows computers could run Android apps, according to a report from The Verge's Tom Warren. Citing unnamed sources, the outlet says Microsoft is "seriously considering" bringing support for Android applications to its Windows and Windows Phone operating systems. While discussions are said to be ongoing within Microsoft, and opinions within the company apparently sharply divided, the move is seen as a possible way for Windows Phone to bridge the so-called "app gap" between with Android and iOS. Warren points out that the ubiquity of Android and its relatively strong library of apps could allow Microsoft to position Android support as a "Band-Aid" for its Windows Phone app woes. The move has echoes of BlackBerry's Android runtime, a feature which in its latest release allows BlackBerry 10 devices to run Android apps alongsid...

Microsoft to pay Samsung $1 billion to make Windows Phone devices?

Microsoft may soon end-up owning Nokia, but it doesn’t want to be the only game in (Windows Phone) town. Rather, it wants a live eco-system, consisting of a number of different handset makers from all around the world. And if it really wants to succeed – it should corner Samsung. And that’s exactly what it’s apparently trying to do. According to Mobile-Review’s Eldar Murtazin, the Redmond giant is offering $1 billion to the Korean giant so it continues to make Windows Phone devices. This, of course, is still a rumor but it does make a lot of sense. If Microsoft wants to stay relevant in the mobile game, it *must* have the world’s biggest phone maker on its side. The problem, however, is how to convince someone who makes a majority of its money from a competing platform (Android) while also working on its own operating system (Tizen). Then again, no matter how much money Sammy is making these days, an additional billion dollars could help it further improve its standing. The upcoming C...

Microsoft details battery saving and touch features on Windows 8 RT, device sizes

Microsoft is gearing up to launch Windows 8, a version that marks a significant departure from previous incarnations in that it supports ARM processors. The Redmond-based company is quite excited about what it has achieved with Windows 8 RT (that’s what the ARM version is called) and the kind of hardware it and its OEM partners have designed. One of the biggest advantages of ARM over Intel or AMD made x86 processors is energy efficiency. Windows 8 RT was designed to reduce power usage to capitalize on that, but also allow for smaller batteries, which in turn means thinner and lighter gadgets. One of the power-saving features is Connected standby, which is the answer to the dilemma of choosing between putting your computer to sleep or keeping it on to receive notifications. Connected standby is like sleep mode but Windows keeps an active connection and checks for new events. It uses a lot less energy than just keeping the computer on. Here’s some battery life figures of a Windows 8 RT ...

Microsoft replaces Hotmail with Outlook.com, gets a million new users in a few hours

Microsoft has launched the new Outlook.com, which replaces the existing Hotmail webmail service. The new website makes good use of the Metro UI and also offers users to switch from their current @hotmail.com email addresses to @outlook.com addresses. Upon opening the new website you’ll notice just how clean and uncluttered the UI is. In fact, it’s so minimalistic that at first glance you’d think you accidentally opened the mobile version of the website. On the left you have your usual folder list including items such as Inbox, Junk, Drafts, etc. You can right-click on these to access additional options, such as marking all mails as read or creating a new folder. On the top you have the Outlook logo with a drop-down menu that lets you switch to your contacts, calendar or SkyDrive account. Weirdly, though, only the Contacts page uses the new Metro UI, whereas the Calendar and SkyDrive app use the same old Hotmail style UI. Worse still, once you switch over to these services, there is no...

Microsoft Surface to launch along with Windows 8 on October 26

Posted in: Tablets, Windows 20 hours ago by Prasad Microsoft has revealed in its annual report filed this week that the anticipated Windows 8 based Surface tablet will be released along with the operating system on October 26. In case you are not aware, the Surface is Microsoft’s upcoming tablet designed completely in-house by Microsoft. There will be two versions of it, the Surface, running Windows RT on an ARM-based NVIDIA Tegra processor and the Surface Pro, running Windows 8 on an Intel Ivy Bridge processor. The Surface has a 10.1-inch HD display, whereas the Surface Pro ups the resolution to FullHD. The tablet has an molded magnesium casing called VaporMg with an integrated kickstand. Microsoft announces Windows 8 accessories, meet the Wedge Mobile Keyboard and Wedge Touch Mouse

Posted in: Various, Windows 18 hours ago by Vince Windows 8 is coming in the end of October and to ensure its adoption goes as smooth as possible, Microsoft has announced the new Wedge Mobile Keyboard and Wedge Touch Mouse. The Wedge Mobile Keyboard keyboard is meant for tablets so it isn’t some simple Bluetooth keyboard with Windows 8-specific keys. No, it comes with a special cover which hides some nifty tricks under its sleeve. Firstly, the cover acts as an on/off switch for the keyboard itself. So when its removed, the keyboard automatically turns on, which as a result saves on battery life. Once it’s off the keyboard, the cover can fold in half to create a stand for your Windows 8 running tablet. In addition, the back of the keyboard has a handy grip allowing you to place it against a tablet and carry it around. Scratches are unlikely due to the cover’s soft rubbery surface. The Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard will retail for $79.95 and will be globally available in the coming w...
