[Infographic] The Evolution of Communication Technology on Samsung Mobile Phones

Since the birth of wireless technology, Samsung has been a leader in the evolution of mobile communication. As the world moved from landline telephones to wireless devices, Samsung has continued to innovate and adapt. Developing its first mobile phone in 1988, Samsung released the world’s first LTE mobile phone in 2010. In 2011, Galaxy SII LTE was the world’s first LTE smartphone. Releasing the world’s first tri-band carrier aggregation-enabled phone last year, Samsung continues to lead smartphone technology. View the original article here

Xiaomi to open online store for the US, but won't sell phones

At its mysterious event in San Francisco today, Xiaomi has announced that it plans to open its own online store in the US in a few months. However, the caveat of the century follows. See, Xiaomi will not be selling smartphones or tablets through that storefront. So the most craved items it makes will still be off limits to US-based customers, at least in an official manner. Instead, Xiaomi will offer its increasing range of accessories, such as headphones (pictured above), fitness bands, power banks, and more. The US isn't the only 'western' market targeted by the company - it will bring is online store to other countries too. One of the reasons why phones and tablets won't be made available for US customers is that apparently Xiaomi finds that localization of its MIUI ROM (which is reportedly being used on 100 million devices already) is very difficult. There are also (unnamed) issues with hardware certification, software testing, infrastructure, as well as other logi...

Windows 10 Technical Preview now available for phones

As leaked last week, the very first release of Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones is now out. You can download and install it on one of just six smartphones that are currently supported. Microsoft promises more handsets will be added to subsequent Preview builds in the future, but for now you can only proceed if you own a Lumia 630, Lumia 635, Lumia 636, Lumia 638, Lumia 730, or Lumia 830. The software giant also notes that this is a "very early" preview, which means many things may break or not work right from the start. Bugs are to be expected, and there's a very long list of known issues at the Source link. The user experience isn't polished yet, and you will see rough edges here and there. Microsoft says it's sharing it now for you to be able to give it feedback and help shape the final Windows 10 release for phones. As described in the presentation video above, the Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones comes with a small subset of the features that wi...

Android apps coming to Windows Phones?

There’s a weird rumor going around the Interwebs, suggesting that Microsoft may allow Android apps to run on Windows Phones. Something like that would quickly increase the app count for Microsoft’s mobile platform, but there are downsides as well. For one thing, this could entice developers to skip “regular” native development for Windows Phone. It’s a tricky choice. On one hand, the Redmond giant could benefit in the short term to have all those Android apps and games available on Windows Phone handsets. On the other hand, they could pretty much face extinction from the mobile game, with Windows Phone pretty much turning into yet another Android launcher. So no, we don’t think Microsoft will allow this to happen. At the same time, it may not stop other companies from pursuing this opportunity. Think BlueStacks, the company that already allows Android apps to run on Windows computers. Perhaps these same guys/gals can enable the same functionality on Windows Phones. We doubt the Redmon...

Nokia Camera Beta lands on Store for all WP8 Lumia phones

Here’s the official download for Nokia Camera for all WP8 Lumias. It requires the Lumia Amber update. http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/nokia-camera-beta/80b4b4a2-f7aa-49f0-b8ab-7b7390ce1014 via Reddit Hopefully that whilst the entry level devices have slightly less processing power, they have less MP to juggle to balance out shot-to-shot times. Nokia Camera times aren’t all the same. 925 (same Dual Core 1.5GHz as 1020) for example can take at least 2 shots in the time it takes the 1020. Even if the 1020 is just taking 5mp shots, it still has to process the initial 34/38mp. Category : Lumia, Nokia Hey, thanks for reading my post. Ask AC: Should I switch phones because updates?

+Russ Clark asks, I have a G2 and it is a great device, but this attention by Moto towards the Moto X makes me wonder if I should sell my G2 and switch. I know you used the G2 for a bit, what input would you have about that idea? We're hearing this a lot. Not necessarily about the G2 or the Moto X , but anytime a phone makes the news because the manufacturer is doing something right, people get interested and start thinking about switching. While the people who make these phones probably love seeing and hearing about this, does it really make sense? Consider why you bought your G2 . Chances are you really liked what it had to offer just a handful of weeks ago when you bought it. Nothing has changed. It's still fast, still has the best camera on any Android phone, and still has a killer LCD to look at it all. The Nexus 5 having Google Now built into the launcher, or the Moto X getting KitKat   before anyone else didn't change any of that. Soon, the Moto X will sto...

Sony unveils Exmor RS CMOS sensor for phones and tablets, does HDR video

Posted in: Digital cameras, Mobile hardware 21 hours ago by Johnny Sony has unveiled a new line of Exmor sensors, the stacked CMOS dubbed RS, meant for use in cameraphones and slates. Expected to arrive in October the Exmor RS will come in two 8 MP and one 13 MP flavors. The Exmor RS is a back-side illuminated sensor, which means it allows more light to get through and thus improve low-light performance. It’s also stacked, meaning it packs more into less space to enable manufacturers to make slimmer phones with good optics. Speaking of optics Sony has prepped new brighter f/2.2 lenses to go along with the new Exmor RS sensor. The new module will also be capable of capturing HDR video if supplied with enough processing power. Source (translated) | Via View the original article here

Mobile phones, feature phones and smartphones: the differences

Smartphones, feature phones, mobile phones. What’s the difference? You may think it’s easy to distinguish between them all, but sometimes there’s not much difference between them. Here’s our breakdown of the three. As a rule of thumb, the best way to differentiate the three groups is to keep in mind its features and therefore, cost. If a phone just makes a phone call, sends a text message and offers very little else, it’s mobile phone. If it offers a high-megapixel camera, enables you to edit Microsoft Office documents and photos then it’s a smartphone. And anywhere in between is probably a feature phone. To explain things further, let’s look more in detail about the differences. Mobile phones These are usually the most affordable phones on the market. A great example of this is the Nokia 100. While a mobile phone doesn’t come packed with a high-end features, what it does offer is a brilliant battery life. This one has a standby time of 840 hours – well over a month – for example. A m...
