Xiaomi to open online store for the US, but won't sell phones

At its mysterious event in San Francisco today, Xiaomi has announced that it plans to open its own online store in the US in a few months. However, the caveat of the century follows. See, Xiaomi will not be selling smartphones or tablets through that storefront. So the most craved items it makes will still be off limits to US-based customers, at least in an official manner. Instead, Xiaomi will offer its increasing range of accessories, such as headphones (pictured above), fitness bands, power banks, and more. The US isn't the only 'western' market targeted by the company - it will bring is online store to other countries too. One of the reasons why phones and tablets won't be made available for US customers is that apparently Xiaomi finds that localization of its MIUI ROM (which is reportedly being used on 100 million devices already) is very difficult. There are also (unnamed) issues with hardware certification, software testing, infrastructure, as well as other logi...

Windows Phone Store now counts more than 200,000 apps

Windows Phone Store has recently passed 200,000 apps, and is now seeing more than 12 million “transactions” per day. We’re not sure what these “transactions” mean and can only think of them as downloads, or combination of paid downloads and in-app purchases. In a post on the Windows Phone Developer Blog, director of the Windows Phone apps team Todd Brix said the company is “already seeing momentum build” in the Store, driven by promotions and the run-up to Christmas. As part of this momentum-building strategy, Microsoft has recently introduced gift cards to encourage users to discover and purchase apps on their new devices. In addition, the Redmond giant has also established more direct billing relationships with operators to boost uptake in markets where credit card penetration is low. According to Brix, there are now 51 operator connections in 31 markets for direct billing, “substantially more than any other smartphone platform”. The company has seen a six-fold increase in transacti...

Nokia Camera Beta lands on Store for all WP8 Lumia phones

Here’s the official download for Nokia Camera for all WP8 Lumias. It requires the Lumia Amber update. http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/nokia-camera-beta/80b4b4a2-f7aa-49f0-b8ab-7b7390ce1014 via Reddit Hopefully that whilst the entry level devices have slightly less processing power, they have less MP to juggle to balance out shot-to-shot times. Nokia Camera times aren’t all the same. 925 (same Dual Core 1.5GHz as 1020) for example can take at least 2 shots in the time it takes the 1020. Even if the 1020 is just taking 5mp shots, it still has to process the initial 34/38mp. Category : Lumia, Nokia Hey, thanks for reading my post. Play Store will now show tablet-designed apps by default on tablets

Another reason for developers to consider tablet designs for their apps Just as was previously announced , the Play Store is undergoing a few changes for those with tablets today. Although it has been an option for some time, when browsing app categories on a tablet you'll now be shown apps that are marked as "designed for tablets" by default. In addition, any apps that haven't been updated to be fully tablet-compatible will be marked as "designed for phones" under their title in the Play Store, giving you a warning of sorts that the app may not work properly. Google is taking this opportunity to remind developers how to make their apps compatible with tablets , as well as to go above and beyond to make experiences that are preferable on tablets rather than simply compatible. Through the Developer Console you can simple head to the "tablet optimization tips" area and see what is keeping your app from being listed as tablet ready. Source: +And...

Motorola Connect hits the Play Store as well, compatible with Moto's KitKat devices

Updated Chrome extension supports rich notifications Yet another Motorola-specific app is making its way from being pre-loaded to now being managed on the Play Store, and this time it's Motorola Connect. Falling in right behind the move of Motorola Assist to Google Play , the latest version of Motorola Connect will be available to update on Motorola's Android 4.4 devices, and have a few new features. The app, which lets you manage calls and texts in conjunction with a Chrome browser extension , will now work even if you've integrated your SMS into Hangouts and can be updated independent of the OS now that it's in the Play Store. You'll need the latest version of the Motorola Connect Chrome extension as well, which now supports Chrome's rich notifications, to complete the system. The latest Android app can be found at the Play Store link above, and the Chrome extension is downloadable from the source link below. Source: +Punit Soni ; Chrome Web Store       ...

Apple introduces Content Dispute system for the App Store

Posted in: iOS, Mobile Services, Mobile software September 1st, 2012, 16:32 by Prasad The App Store is not without its share of copycat apps. Often you will see developers trying to rip-off a successful app or game by having a similar name, icon or UI and try to benefit from someone else’s success. For a long time, developers of popular apps could do little but watch copies of their app or game appear on the store. But now Apple has come up with a new Content Dispute system that might just put an end to this situation. With the help of this new system, developers who feel their intellectual property has been infringed can now file a complaint with Apple by filling out a form. After that, Apple will put the developer in contact with the offending party and see if they can reach an agreement. If that doesn’t work, the developer can contact Apple’s legal team for further action. This should hopefully reduce the number of copycat apps on the Store that confuse unknowing users and will al...

Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies hits the Google Play store as Sony Xperia exclusive

Posted in: Android, Gaming 12 hours ago by Stefan Dead Trigger is no longer the go-to zombie shooter with impressive graphics in the Google Play store, people. Glu Mobile have released Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies for Android, thus making choice for the genre lovers more difficult. The new member of the Call of Duty franchise will be exclusive to Sony Xperia smartphones for its first month of availability. The list of handset includes the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Xperia S, as well as the Xperia ion. I am particularly impressed to see the Xperia Play in this group, as it is already of considerable age by Android smartphone standards. In case you are interested, be aware that the Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies doesn’t come cheap. Glu Mobile are asking $6.99 for their latest offering. Source | Via View the original article here
