Miami, Florida – Tokkao today is pleased to introduce Effective Alarm 1.0 in the App Store, an alarm that will not stop until the user is fully awake. The difference between this alarm and other alarms is that this alarm will engage its users in a set of activities directed towards increasing their awareness in the morning. When we wake up, our mind is still in a restful state. As soon as we are engaged in active reading and problem solving, even when it is as simple as reading instructions and ordering numbers, our mind becomes fully awake. It is Effective Alarm’s job to make sure the users are engaged long enough in these activities until they are fully awake. Simplicity is the best form of sophistication. As the Screenshot 1 shows, Effective Alarm features a simple and professional looking user interface. It has the familiarity of the regular iPhone alarm yet it improves on the ability to really wake up its users. The alarm is fully configurable, adding settings to set defaults tun...

Microsoft replaces Hotmail with Outlook.com, gets a million new users in a few hours

Microsoft has launched the new Outlook.com, which replaces the existing Hotmail webmail service. The new website makes good use of the Metro UI and also offers users to switch from their current @hotmail.com email addresses to @outlook.com addresses. Upon opening the new website you’ll notice just how clean and uncluttered the UI is. In fact, it’s so minimalistic that at first glance you’d think you accidentally opened the mobile version of the website. On the left you have your usual folder list including items such as Inbox, Junk, Drafts, etc. You can right-click on these to access additional options, such as marking all mails as read or creating a new folder. On the top you have the Outlook logo with a drop-down menu that lets you switch to your contacts, calendar or SkyDrive account. Weirdly, though, only the Contacts page uses the new Metro UI, whereas the Calendar and SkyDrive app use the same old Hotmail style UI. Worse still, once you switch over to these services, there is no...

Nexus 7 users reporting touchscreen responsiveness issues

Google’s Nexus 7 is one of the hottest selling Android tablets right now owing to its attractive price point but it seems that Asus might have cut more than a few corners to make it cheap enough. Users are reporting a whole host of problems and a majority of them seem to involve the touchscreen. Geek.com’s Ryan Whitwam recently put up a video showing a decidedly inconsistent touch experience with repeated loss of touch connection. According to Ryan, this occurrence is intermittent and varies in severity. In addition users have complained about an issue where the glass lifts up on one corner of the tablet. Heat radiated by the processor is believed to be a cause for the issue but it is not known for certain yet. During the large scale production of any device, there are bound to be a few units with problems so this could very well be limited to just a few units. Are you currently using a Nexus 7 and facing issues with it ? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below. [Via - Pocket...
