A report from a few days ago, suggests that the slate will debut before mid-March with a beefy NVIDIA Tegra X1 chipset. NVIDIA Shield Tablet successor tipped with Tegra X1 chipset

According to a new report, NVIDIA is hard at work on the successor of the Shield Android tablet. The sequel of the 8? gaming slate is rumored to launch in mid-March or earlier. Unsurprisingly, the biggest highlight in the upcoming tablet will be its NVIDIA Tegra X1 chipset with Maxwell GPU. Announced during CES in January, the X1 is the first mobile processor in the world capable of 1 teraflop floating point performance. Chipset aside, there is no other information available on the yet to be revealed slate. However, the 8? screen size of the current generation is likely to remain unchanged, as will the optional LTE connectivity. During the Tegra X1 unveiling, NVIDIA announced that devices with the new silicon will launch in the first half of this year. As always, we will be on the lookout for more info on the upcoming device. Until then, take the above report with a grain of salt. Source | Via View the original article here

Samsung 10.5-inch AMOLED tablet to be announced at CES?

We’ve already told you that Samsung is preparing to launch tablets with AMOLED screens next year, with these devices targeting the very high end of the market. According to ETNews, the Korean company will launch first such device in early 2014 which we take for CES. The report says that Samsung will start with a 10.5-inch tablet with 8- and 13-inch models coming later in the year. No other details are known at this stage but it’s fair to say that more information will be released in the next few weeks (or even days). As a reminder, Samsung has already released an AMOLED screen-equipped tablet, Galaxy Tab 7.7, though that device didn’t receive expected response… Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The "convergence" is what he's most excited about, and writing about it is the next logical thing to do. He thinks that using a smartphone is what everyone who cares about their time should do. In add...

Acer Aspire P3 review: a nice enough tablet, but wait for the refresh

Back when Windows 8 first launched, the Acer Iconia W700 quickly became one of our favorite laptop / tablet hybrids. There were two reasons for that, really: the price was right, and the battery lasted longer than pretty much any other Win 8 device we'd tested. The thing is, it was more of a business device than something we'd recommend to the average consumer. After all, it came with a heavy, desk-bound docking station, with the carrying case and included keyboard as standalone pieces. That's quite a lot to carry if you ever feel like taking it on the road. That's where the Acer Aspire P3 comes in. Don't worry, the W700 is still alive and kicking, but for people who've been looking for something more portable, this could be the one you want. Like the W700, the P3 starts at a reasonable price ($800) and has the guts of an Ivy Bridge laptop, including a Core i5 processor, Intel HD 4000 graphics, 4GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD. The difference is that rather than a cl...

Sony LT29 Hayabusa may be called Xperia TX, while the Xperia tablet to go as Xperia Tablet S

Posted in: Android, Mobile phones, Rumors, Tablets August 12th, 2012, 11:44 by Peter Recently a DLNA certification revealed that the Sony Xperia LT30i ‘Mint’ will be called Xperia T. Now, XperiaBlog reports that the Sony Xperia LT29i ‘Hayabusa’ will go by the name Xperia TX. The close naming of the two phones makes sense, considering how similar their specs are. Plus, the Hayabusa has already launched in Japan as the Xperia GX. An Xperia Tablet is also laying in wait in the rumor mill, though some EXIF info from a photo uploaded to Picasa reveals that won’t be it’s final name either. The Model name field of the EXIF data lists the tablet as ‘Xperia Tablet S’. It’s clearly a successor to the old Sony Tablet S, with the same wedge design and 9.4? screen but a thinner body and newer Tegra 3 chipset. The photo is blurry, probably of the table that the tablet was placed on, so it doesn’t tell us much about image quality, but it does confirm that the camera has 8MP resolution (up from 5MP ...

Apple offered Samsung its patents for a licensing fee of $30 per smartphone and $40 per tablet

Posted in: Android, iOS, Symbian, Tablets August 11th, 2012, 20:20 by Stefan To say that the currently raging trial between Apple and Samsung has been a revelation would be a massive understatement. As the evidence piles up in the case, we get to find out more and more about the internal dealings in both companies. The latest bit of juicy information got submitted as evidence yesterday, revealing that Apple offered Samsung the rights to license its patent portfolio for the amount of $30 per smartphone and $40 per tablet back in October, 2010. According to the submitted presentation from Apple, the amount which Samsung owed for 2010 alone was in the vicinity of $250 million. It included revenue not only from sales of Android devices, but Bada OS, Windows Phone and Symbian ones as well. As most of you likely remember, this was the time when both the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S were released. The latter had shocked Apple’s executives with its resemblance to their own company’s offerin...

Apple’s iPad dominates tablet market with record-breaking quarter, according to IDC

Posted in: Android, iOS, Tablets 14 hours ago by Peter While Android was the undisputed ruler in the smartphone world, it’s a different story when it comes to tablets – Apple’s iPad had a record quarter and accounted for 68.2% of tablet shipments during Q2 of this year. For comparison, the biggest maker of Android tablets is Samsung and their share is just 9.6%. Going back to Apple for a moment, they beat their record Q4 2011 quarter despite shipments in mature markets losing some of their momentum, according to IDC. The other markets picked up the slack. Samsung’s shipments grew by 117.6% and solidified its second place, even though they’ve got a long, long way to go before catching up with Apple. Amazon and their single Kindle Fire tablet are doing pretty good for themselves too, snatching a 5% share of the market – this is especially impressive because the Kindle Fire was only introduced in Q4 of last year. (Preliminary) (Unit Shipments are in thousands) ASUS more than doubled the...

Huawei MediaPad 7 Lite Android tablet comes with an aluminum unibody, yet uncofirmed specs

Posted in: Android, Tablets July 25th, 2012, 15:25 by Peter Huawei just announced a new 7? Android tablet – the MediaPad 7 Lite. With Google’s Nexus 7 tablet on the market, there isn’t a lot of room for 7? droid tablets but the Huawei offering does have a few things the pureblood tablet doesn’t. First off, the Huawei MediaPad 7 Lite has an aluminum unibody design. Then there’s the 3G connectivity (with voice calls and SMS), along with cameras on the front and the back. The tablet seems to be running stock Android ICS, but Huawei really thrifty with the details. From one of the images it seems that it has two slots hidden under flaps – presumably one is for the SIM card and the other for a microSD card (which would be another advantage over the Nexus 7), but nothing on the official page confirms it. Actually, that’s all we know about the MediaPad 7 Lite for now – the processor is unknown and there’s no info on pricing, markets or launch date. Without this, we don’t know how it stacks ...

Huawei releases video for the upcoming MediaPad 10 FHD Android tablet

Posted in: Android, Tablets July 23rd, 2012, 10:33 by Prasad We saw the Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD back at Mobile World Congress earlier this year but there hasn’t been any news about it ever since. Now it seems the device is close to its release and so Huawei has released an official video mentioning some of the key features of this 10-inch Android tablet. One of the major features is the presence of a 10.1-inch, 1920 x 1200 resolution IPS panel, which is the highest so far in the world of Android tablets, along with the new ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity. Other things that the video mentions is an 8.8mm thick, 580g “luxurious, yet subtle” body with “refined metallic surface”, 8 megapixel camera on the back with dual-LED flash, Dolby Surround sound, Huawei’s own K3V2 processor with a quad-core CPU and a 16-core GPU, LTE connectivity, 160GB cloud storage (no particular service mentioned), cloud-based backup and sync, device locator and a laptop-style keyboard dock. No pricing or release d...
