Nokia 808 PureView unboxings – with a twist

Published by Tom Hall on September 5, 2012 A couple of unboxings for you today. ‘Great!’ I hear you say, ‘but what’s so different about that?’ Well, these Nokia 808 PureViews have been unboxed, and photographed/filmed using…another Nokia 808 Pureview. So you get a double whammy, both an unboxing of the phone, plus a couple of tests to show the capabilities of the 41MP camera. Marc from the PureView Club has made a video using photographs taken on his black Nokia 808 PureView while he unboxed the white version. It’s a little different to your normal unboxing (with a video and narration), but shows every aspect of the phone in and out of the packaging, and a good overview of what comes in the box. The physical design of the phone is well covered, and in my opinion this video does a better job than a standard gallery of shots. But that could just be the quality of the photographs: Jay has produced a whole different kind of video unboxing, pitching the Nokia N8, the Nokia Lumia 900, the C...

Nokia Lumia 920 promo videos demo its PureView camera, PureMotion screen

Posted in: Mobile phones, Windows Phone 12 hours ago by Peter The Nokia Lumia 920 hosts a good deal of new tech features. The easiest way to figure out what they are is to watch these videos from Nokia, which do a good job of demonstrating them. First is the PureView camera – the 920 has an 8MP shooter with bright F/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens, image stabilization and “best in class” low-light performance. In Nokia’s own words: “It’s not about the number megapixels, but about how you use them”. The 4.5? WXGA (768×1280) LCD screen has something called “super sensitive touch”. We saw it demonstrated live and can detect touches even through thick gloves. It even worked with just you holding your car keys as an improvised stylus. The other big thing is the PureMotion HD+. No, it’s not PureView for video, it’s the successor of ClearBlack. The technology promises pixels that update more than twice faster than competing LCD’s. Nokia is also calling “the brightest screen”, though the official specs ...

Top EISA award for the Nokia 808 PureView

As well as taking remarkable photographs, it would appear that the Nokia 808 PureView is also pretty good at winning top prizes and attracting stellar reviews. Ever since it won the Best New Handset award after it was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year, the 808 PureView has been attracting prizes like a magnet. Last week, the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) honoured the 808 PureView by declaring it the best product for European Mobile Photo Achievement 2012-2013. This is a prestigious and notable award because EISA represents more than 50 specialist consumer electronics magazines in 20 European countries. In its citation, EISA said PureView technology was: “A major leap forward in mobile devices and brings high-quality photo features to the masses.” This EISA achievement follows the 808 PureView’s award for Best Imaging Innovation from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). Reviewers have been just as enthralled by the Nokia 808 P...

Love at first sight with the Nokia 808 PureView

The founder of the PureView Club website Marc Wielaert talks to Nokia Conversations We all know that the Nokia 808 PureView made quite a splash when it was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year.  Almost immediately, the blogosphere became smitten with its 41-megapixel sensor, cutting edge optics and advanced algorithms that produced images on a par, if not better, than digital SLR cameras. Marc Wielaert is an enthusiastic blogger from Hilversum in the Netherlands, who runs the smartphone-review.nl website and he was in attendance at Barcelona for the launch. It’s fair to say that the 808 PureView made quite an impression on him as well. In fact, Marc, who has been using and testing camera phones for over decade, became so infatuated with the device that he set up a website dedicated to spreading the word about PureView technology. The PureView Club, run by Marc and his webmaster Peter Buijsman, has now been going for a couple of months and already boasts...

Fine Art from the 808 PureView in Brazil

From last week, São Paulo has been hosting a pure, unique exhibition, one devoted to the Nokia 808 PureView. You might be thinking, “So what? It’s a regular show, right?”. Nope! Nokia Brazil brought together four award-winning photographers, using the Nokia 808 PureView, to record images exclusively for this exhibit. The result will be revealed today, when the exhibition opens at DOC Gallery, one of the most popular art galleries in São Paulo. Just to give you a glance of what one might find, in their professional history they’ve made photos for the internationally famous Vogue, Elle, Playboy, GQ, Glamour, Mademoiselle and Vanity Fair. Click the images below for a more detailed, closer look. The spectators will have a chance to see how rich and innovative taking photos with PureView technology can be. And the good news is – the pictures will be on sale and you can buy online. If you’re in São Paulo or if you have plans to be there soon, you shouldn’t miss the exposition, which will be...

Sharing photos is just the start. Using the different outputs you can also use your 808 PureView to share videos, music and other files. In short, the 808 PureView’s supreme connectivity options might be just as impressive as its camera. Let’s go through some of the inputs and outputs of the Nokia 808 PureView in more detail. Together with your data connection, the WiFi connection, whether at home or a public network, is the gateway through which your 808 PureView will be able to surf the Internet, check emails, download apps and keep an eye on your social networks. WiFi also enables DLNA connectivity – this allows your phone to connect to other...

Five camera apps for your Nokia 808 PureView

To suggest that you could radically improve the camera in the Nokia 808 Pureview with the addition of a few apps would be pure folly. After all, Digital Photography Review, a publication that normally looks at digital SLR cameras rather than mere camera phones, has just given it a highly prized Gold Award. However, by installing a few apps from the Nokia Store, you can explore some creative, social and downright quirky tools that you can use with the 808 PureView’s camera. Here are five apps that will add an extra dimension to Nokia’s world-beating camera phone. The Camera Lover Pack is an app created by imaging specialists, Scalado, a company from which Nokia has recently acquired technology and developers for future products. There are five different lenses to play with: PhotoRama: Stitch three shots together to create panoramaPhotoTwister: Apply a host of different and adjustable psychedelic effectsPhotoFusion: Fuse two photos together with 12 templates to choose fromRetromatic: Ap...

Tips for recording concerts on your Nokia 808 PureView

Published by Boc Ly on July 31, 2012 Last week I provided definitive proof that the Nokia 808 PureView is fairly idiot-proof when it comes to taking great photos.  It’s a great camera phone because it is so easy for a novice photographer, such as myself, to use but its different settings also allow more advanced users to get the results they want as well.  We have previously published some tips and tricks to help people make the most of 808 PureView’s camera.  You can still read Parts 1 and Part 2 of our help guide. As well as pin-sharp still images, it is worth remembering that the 808 PureView is also a very special device for recording HD video. When you combine this with its Rich Recording technology, it is not a huge leap forward to conclude that the 808 PureView will be quite something for recording music performances. One person who has noticed this is EasycapExpertii, an 808 PureView enthusiast from Finland who has set up a website dedicated to showcasing music recordings made...

A night at the zoo with the Nokia 808 PureView

Any gadget fan will tell you that there is nothing they enjoy more than getting their hands on a shiny new toy and taking it out of the box for the first time. So you can imagine my delight when I got my hands on a brand new, box-fresh Nokia 808 PureView last week. Right now, it is one of the shiniest new toys around. Let’s not forget that the 808 PureView isn’t just another camera phone – it features a revolutionary 41-megapixel sensor, state of the art optics and cutting edge algorithms for lossless zoom and super sharp images. The reviewers have already been falling over themselves to heap lavish praise on the 808 PureView’s stunning camera and now it is going to be my turn to reach for the superlatives. Naturally, the only way I could contain my excitement was to take the device with me on a trip to the zoo. First impressions First, though, let me share my initial thoughts about the look and feel of the Nokia 808 PureView. Yes, the first thing you notice when taking it out of the ...

Accessories for your Nokia 808 PureView

The Nokia 808 PureView, with its revolutionary camera phone technology, is the mobile phone that everyone has been talking about since it was unveiled earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Recently, there has been less talking and more wide-eyed wonder as people are beginning to see for themselves the astonishing capabilities of the phone. The Internet is buzzing with blogs and picture galleries that are eager to show off the device’s astonishing images and even as a great way of capturing concert footage. If you’re one of the people who’ve got an 808 PureView already, you can relax in the smug knowledge that you are the envy of the mobile world. What else could you possibly want? Well, as you would expect from a monster camera phone, the 808 PureView also has some frighteningly wicked accessories to go with it. All serious photographers will have a tripod and as a serious camera phone, one of the first accessories you should consider for your 808 PureView is th...

Nokia 808 PureView meets Nissan GT-R

Yes you read right, Megapixel meets Horsepower! As a big last hoorah before giving my Nokia 808 PureView loaner back to Nokia, I was extremely lucky to spend a bit of time again with a Nissan GT-R (HUGE thanks to Richard Haderer!)! Two big worlds collide here: On one side the Nokia 808 PureView, the new undisputed king in mobile photography, Damian Dinning’s 41-megapixel masterpiece with it’s fantastic PureView technology. On the other side, the Nissan GT-R. The most underrated supercar, with 550 horsepowers and probably the best acceleration since a starting plane. Stomping the foot on the accelerator is like getting kicked in the seat by a horse, with a fantastic sound as company. Feast your eyes on these PureView-GT-R-images and make sure to check them out in full size on my Flickr channel by clicking on them! And here’s a short video, for good measure: Michael Hell, Austria, Mobile Phone Freak, social networked Fella, down to earth and always up for new Challenges. Also blogging ...
