New Meizu m1 version certified, 1080p display and 2GB in tow

Meizu m1 went official just a week ago, shortly after its bigger sibling - the Meizu m1 note. Meizu m1 is a very affordable smartphone at $110 with great specs package - a 5" 768p display, MT6732 chip with quad-core Cortex-A53 processor and Mali-T760MP2 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 13MP rear camera. The Meizu m1 note promotes the display to 5.5" 1080p and brings faster octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. It costs about $175. Meizu m1 is a direct rival to the Xiaomi Redmi 2, which we recently reviewed in detail. And just like the Redmi 2, it seems the Meizu m1 will get an upgrade shortly after launch. A Meizu m1 model dubbed M645A entered the Chinese certification authority. It is supposed to pack a 1080p display and come with 2GB of RAM, but may not run on Flyme OS. There were lots of rumors Meizu is developing phones that run on YunOS and Ubuntu, so this new M465A may as well be one of those. The information is scarce right now, but we expect more details to surface soon. Meanwhile ...

Lumia RM-1099 with 4-inch display under testing in India

The Lumia RM-1099 successfully passed certification in Indonesia last month, but sadly there were neither specifications, nor photos of the device available at that time because unlike other certification processes, the Indonesian authorities don?t reveal any details regarding the product. However, it is now being reported that the device is getting tested in India, and the good news is that a couple its specifications have been revealed. According to an entry on Indian import tracking website Zauba (the first entry in the image above), the Lumia RM-1099 is a low-end device having a 4-inch display and dual-SIM support. Aside from the RM-1099, the RM-1110 and RM-1069 also recently passed certification in Indonesia. Via View the original article here

Audi puts Samsung-made 7.7-inch AMOLED display instead of a rear-view mirror in the new R8 e-tron

Posted in: Various 17 hours ago by Vince Supercars aren’t known with their high usability and the new Audi R8 e-tron is a breathing proof of this. The car doesn’t have a back window and to fix the issue Audi has fitted it with a rear-view camera which works in conjunction with a 7.7-inch AMOLED rear-view mirror. Naturally, the display will be supplied by Samsung Display and we assume it will be the same unit used in the Galaxy Tab 7.7 slate. Audi says it preferred the AMOLED display for its thinness and power efficiency compared to regular LCDs. The car-maker is also working to enable extra information to be displayed on the mirror-replacing screen in the future. For now, the unusual 7.7-inch AMOLED rear-view mirror with the special camera will only be featured in the new R8 e-tron, but the company says that as the technology advances and becomes cheaper, it will find its place in the rest of the company’s vehicles. Here’s how iOS 6 apps look like on a taller display

Posted in: iOS, Mobile phones, Rumors August 10th, 2012, 17:32 by Ian We’ve heard a wide variety of sources claim that the upcoming iPhone will feature a larger display, and today we can add one more to the list. When put through an iOS simulator at a resolution of 1136 x 640 (the rumored resolution of the iPhone 5), many iOS 6 apps scale perfectly to the new size, revealing interfaces which have been tweaked and optimized for the different aspect ratio. The upcoming iPhone 5 (if that’s what it’ll be called), is rumored to feature a screen size which will measure just above the 4 inch mark, and will supposedly also have a new aspect ratio of 16:9. Above, you can see how the iOS 6 homescreen scales to support 20 icons (not counting the dock), while the current iPhone only supports 16. Here’s how the Apple keyboard gets scaled in landscape mode. While many of the iOS 6 apps appear to make good use of the new resolution, there are a number of legacy apps, which have letterboxing along t...

Latest Google Chrome update brings Retina display support on OS X, webcam support for everyone

Posted in: Mac OS X, Web Browsers, Windows 20 hours ago by Prasad Google has released the latest version of the desktop Chrome browser, which brings it to version 21.0.1180.60. One of the two important features is the support for the Retina display on the new MacBook Pro. This feature was so far available on the beta version but now those who use the stable release can take advantage of it as well. Another feature that was only available on the beta version before is support for a camera and microphone. Now thanks to addition of the getUserMedia API, websites will finally have access to your webcam (if you allow them), which will let you use services like Webcam Toy, Magic Xylophone and Sketchbots, to name a few. Other minor additions include deeper Google Cloud Print integration and expanded support for gamepads. To download the latest version of Google Chrome, click here. Samsung reportedly squeezed out 350 ppi out of an OLED display panel

Posted in: Mobile hardware July 29th, 2012, 20:04 by Stefan It looks like Samsung is about to answer all critics of the PenTile natured displays of the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S III in an adequate fashion. The Korean giant has reportedly squeezed out the jaw dropping 350ppi out of an AMOLED display with RGB stripe. The feat has been accomplished in laboratory test, via the application of fine metal mask technology, which is a departure of the, currently used by Samsung, laser-induced thermal imaging method. Naturally, we hope that the new tech makes it to production as soon as possible. After all the possibility of 350ppi display sporting Samsung smartphone will surely be tempting to many.
