Nokia App News – spin the wheel

Inspired by one of Jay’s excellent Lumiappaday videos, this week’s App News is brought to you by AppVegas. I’m spinning the wheel and taking a look at where the journey takes me. So, having downloaded AppVegas, I was all set to go. Faced by the slot machine-inspired spinning wheels, I can see the following options on the third reel – ‘Paid, Trial, Free’ – and with the ability to lock down an option, I selected free, and got ready to spin (shake). Gym PocketGuide Cost: Free in the Marketplace Availability: Everywhere In a nutshell: Simple guide to your gym program First step of the journey is this handy little guide to your gym life. Not much more than a diary listing what exercises to do when, it’s well designed and seems to do exactly what it promises. Choose whether you are male or female and the aim of your gym visits (muscle building or fat loss), then follow the instructions. It has a clear, ...

Movie music: The 7 greatest film scores ever

Most amazing movies have amazing music. But which scores are the best of the bunch? Music has always been at the heart of the movie industry. Even at the Lumiere brothers’ first film screening in 1895, there was a pianist tinkling the ivories. Twenty years later, Fritz Lang’s classic silent film, Metropolis, was accompanied by an original full scale orchestral score. Now, thanks to the wonders of modern mobile tech, we can enjoy movies and their music, wherever and whenever we want. But if you had to choose a play list, which would you go for? The composer’s criteria We asked composer Douglas Black Heaton which scores he thought deserved the title of greatest ever. His criteria: They had to be popular, influential and a damn good listen. They had to be composed scores, rather than soundtracks of songs, and each composer had to be different. So without further ado, here’s his magnificent seven. Psycho 1960 Bernard Hermann’s unsettling string score for Hitchcock’s masterpiece is never ...

We meet the LG Optimus L9, here are some live shots

Posted in: Android, Hands-on, Mobile phones , IFA 2012 August 31st, 2012, 17:53 by Kyle The LG Optimus L9, which was announced at the IFA, is a mid-ranger that aims to bring solid smartphone functionality, good styling and reasonable price tag in one package. The Optimus L9 fella is home to a 4.7-inch qHD IPS display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 5MP camera and 4GB internal storage. We find the screen to have pretty good image quality and sharpness even though it’s 234ppi density isn’t the best in class. The viewing angles are above average, too. The rest of the specs include 1GB of RAM, front-facing VGA camera for video chats and a standard connectivity package. It runs on Android 4.0 ICS skinned with LG’s custom Optimus UI. LG Optimus L9 In terms of controls the LG Optimus L9 is quite similar to the high-flying Optimus 4X HD – the form factor is the same and so are the keys at the front controls (except the Home key, which is now regular button rather than touch-sensitive one), th...

We go hands-on with Lenovo IdeaTab S2110, A2109 and A2107 Android tablets

Lenovo is offering several new tablets at this years’ IFA, and we’ve decided to give you the quick lowdown on each of them. The IdeaTab A2107, IdeaTab A2109, and IdeaTab S2110 are all Android ICS tablets designed for various market segments. The IdeaTab S2110 is Lenovo’s new premium 10-inch tablet, featuring a detachable keyboard dock. Inside, there’s a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 32 GB of storage and 1 GB of RAM. There’s also connectivity for USB devices, a microHDMI port, 3G connectivity, and 5 MP rear-facing and 1.3 MP front-facing cameras. The build quality of the S2110 is definitely the best of the three, and the back is adequately grippy although not as smudge-resistant as the two other tablets. The device becomes significantly heavier when the keyboard is attached, but as a standalone tablet it weighs in pretty well. The 1280 x 800 display is by far the best of the three, and navigation the Android interface is very snappy with no lag in the animations or transitions. Lenovo Id...

Sharing all things Nokia on the World Wide Web

Conversations is just a small part of Nokia’s presence on the Internet. In fact, most of the credit and most of the work belongs to you! We know that your blogs and websites are an integral part of spreading the word, and the love, for all things Nokia. It also says a lot about your passion and enthusiasm for Nokia’s products that so many of you have taken the time and effort to create websites devoted to them. You could say that it’s humbling. We have compiled a list of some of our favourite Nokia fan websites and blogs. Some are focused on a particular device or aspect of Nokia, while others are more wide-ranging. We’ve sorted them into categories: GeneralLumia and Windows PhoneNokia 808 PureView and photographySymbian   My Nokia Blog http://mynokiablog.com/ The biggest compliment I can pay to ‘My Nokia Blog’ is that it could easily be mistaken for an official Nokia website. There is a wealth of content that covers everything from the latest news (and rumours), tutorials and acces...
