Lenovo P70 launches in China with 4,000 mAh battery

Lenovo has made a new smartphone available in China today. It's called P70, and it's a midranger with the battery capacity perhaps being its main claim to fame. The P70 comes powered by a whopping 4,000 mAh cell, which the Chinese company says may last you up to 34 days on standby. That's quite an achievement for a smartphone in this day and age, though the number does only refer to 2G standby. It goes down to 30.5 days on 4G, and 29 days on 3G. Still, respectable nevertheless. Aside from that, the Lenovo P70 boasts a 5-inch 720p IPS touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, as well as a 5 MP front-facing unit. Running the show is MediaTek's MT6752 64-bit chipset, coming with a 1.7 GHz octa-core CPU and a 700 MHz MaliT760-MP2 GPU. The handset has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, dual-SIM functionality, and 4G LTE support (Cat.4, up to 150Mbps download and 50Mbps upload). It's being offered in "midnight blue" only. It r...

BQ Aquaris E4.5 is the first Ubuntu phone, launches next week

The ever elusive 'Ubuntu phone' concept is finally about to become reality. After the failed Ubuntu Edge campaign, Canonical (the company behind the OS) turned to partnerships with mobile device makers in order to get its software into the hands of consumers. We've been hearing that the first Ubuntu phone will launch soon for a very long time now, but that's actually going to happen next week, believe it or not. That said, the first Ubuntu smartphone will be anything but a flagship. Meet the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition. It's basically got the exact same hardware as the already available BQ Aquaris E4.5, only that runs Android. Hence the "Ubuntu Edition" moniker. The phone has a 4.5-inch 540x960 touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, and a 5 MP front-facing one. Powering things up is a MediaTek chipset with a 1.3 GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 processor, aided by 1GB of RAM. Internal storage is 8GB, and the handset comes with dual-SIM support. ...

Samsung launches the Galaxy Note 10.1 in India for a hefty price, calls it the Galaxy Note 800

Posted in: Android, Tablets August 25th, 2012, 18:19 by Prasad Samsung has launched its latest Android based tablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1, in India. As usual for Samsung, they have changed the name of the tablet to Galaxy Note 800 for the Indian market. Other than the name, the Galaxy Note 800 is identical to the model sold internationally. However, it does come with a very hefty price tag. Samsung is selling the Note 800 in India for ?39,900, which is approximately $720, an enormous $221 more than the international model that sells for $499. In comparison, the new iPad starts at ?30,500 ($548) for the base 16GB Wi-Fi only model and ?38,900 ($699) for the base 16GB 3G model. Having said that, Samsung does enjoy tremendous presence and brand value in Asian markets such as India compared to Apple, so it may help offset the high price tag to some extent. Apple’s new iPad launches in China with short queues and no chaos

Apple product launches in China are renowned for being chaotic and rowdy but today the company began selling its new iPad in the country under rather unusual circumstances. Instead of being greeted by massive queues and anxious customers — as has become the norm — the Retina display equipped device has enjoyed a more muted and organised opening. Yesterday, Apple laid the foundations for a more controlled launch day when it introduced a pre-sale reservation system that requires all customers to register their interest in the device — priced from RMB 3688 ($579) – in advance of buying the flagship tablet computer. As well as insuring against large queues, the system is designed to restrict the influence of scalpers, independent sellers that buy the device in bulk with the aim of reselling it for profit, whose large numbers have blighted previous launches. The introduction has avoided a repeat of the madness of March’s iPhone 4S launch and Apple’s flagship Chinese store — in Beijing’s Sa...
