New Meizu m1 version certified, 1080p display and 2GB in tow

Meizu m1 went official just a week ago, shortly after its bigger sibling - the Meizu m1 note. Meizu m1 is a very affordable smartphone at $110 with great specs package - a 5" 768p display, MT6732 chip with quad-core Cortex-A53 processor and Mali-T760MP2 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 13MP rear camera. The Meizu m1 note promotes the display to 5.5" 1080p and brings faster octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. It costs about $175. Meizu m1 is a direct rival to the Xiaomi Redmi 2, which we recently reviewed in detail. And just like the Redmi 2, it seems the Meizu m1 will get an upgrade shortly after launch. A Meizu m1 model dubbed M645A entered the Chinese certification authority. It is supposed to pack a 1080p display and come with 2GB of RAM, but may not run on Flyme OS. There were lots of rumors Meizu is developing phones that run on YunOS and Ubuntu, so this new M465A may as well be one of those. The information is scarce right now, but we expect more details to surface soon. Meanwhile ...

Here is the breakdown of what Android version AC readers are running

AndroidCentral readers love them some Kit Kat I love data and charts. Really love them, like totally nerd out over them. Last week, we put up a poll asking you which version of Android you were running . I knew I could use your answers and do something with them. Thus, the quarterly AC reader version charts were born. And this pretty chart that is totally a remix of Google's. For now, this is just for discussion purposes. We can compare it to December 2013 numbers from Google themselves  and see a few things. The first, and biggest, is that we love our Kit Kat . I'm sure a larger percentage of our readers (compared to the general population) have one of the few phones or tablets running Android 4.4 , and the number of people who said screw it, then rooted and did it themselves is going to be a much higher percentage than normal folks.  The second thing that jumps out at me here is the very low number of people running Gingerbread . Compared to Google's 24.1 percent ...

Next version of uTorrent to include “featured torrents” as a form of advertising

Posted in: Desktop software 24 hours ago by Prasad The makers of popular BitTorrent client µTorrent have announced some changes that they will be making in the upcoming version of the application and how they plan on monetizing it. So far, the free version of µTorrent offered to install toolbars during installation and that was the only source of revenue for the developers from the free version. The next version of µTorrent, however, will include something called “featured torrents”. Featured torrents will be sponsored torrents that will appear at the top of your torrent list. These will usually be to content such as movies, music, games, software, etc. Of course, all of this will be genuine and offered directly by their respective owners. This is supposed to help encourage people to download genuine content and at the same time act as a source of income for µTorrent developers. The featured torrents will only appear in the free version of the client and not in the Pro version. For m...

Windows RT to ship with Preview version of Office 2013 RT, loses some features

Posted in: Desktop computers, Mobile software, Windows August 8th, 2012, 10:26 by Prasad It has been known for a while now that Microsoft will be shipping a version of the new Office 2013 with Windows RT and that it will be the only non-Metro application that can be accessed on this particular version of the operating system. Now we are learning that Office 2013 RT, which is to be included on Windows RT will be a watered-down version of the full blown Office 2013 that you will experience on standard Windows 8 or 7. Instead what you will get is the Preview version of the Office 2013 RT pre-installed in Windows RT devices and you will be able to upgrade to the final version, which will come out sometime early next year. So what’s missing in Office RT compared to the full blown Office? The list includes macros, third party add-ons, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) support and some other minor things. Microsoft says that these features have been dropped to ensure better battery life a...

Is Samsung about to launch a black Galaxy S III version?

Posted in: Android, Mobile phones 14 hours ago by Vince When the Galaxy S III was announced, many were surprised that Samsung didn’t introduce a version in the classical black, but instead went forPebble blue. This might change, as a couple of photos of what appears to be a black Galaxy S III were uploaded to the company’s Facebook page, showcasing the phone’s capabilities at the London 2012 Olympics. The photos aren’t a definite proof that a black version of Samsung’s Android flagship is on the way since they have slight blue tints here or there. In the end, it may all be just bad lighting, but it would make sense for Samsung to launch a black version of the S III. A Samsung Galaxy S III in garnet red is already available for AT&T, so it’s highly likely for Sammy to launch even more color variations and try to appeal to an even wider audience. The final version of Windows 8 leaks online

Posted in: Windows August 3rd, 2012, 14:13 by Kyle Just yesterday Microsoft announced Windows 8 is finally ready and released to manufacturing. Today its Enterprise N version is all over the torrent servers. The N version stands for a stripped down version, which lacks the Windows Media Player – a requirement ruled by the European Commission 8 years ago. The leaked ISO is for the x64 version of the Enterprise N editions (there might be x86 somewhere too) and is not bootable. This means you must start the installation under Windows. There was another leak yesterday for the 32-bit standard version of Windows 8, but I have my doubts it might be fake. Anyway, it is now confirmed that the final build is 9200. I recommend you stay away from these early leaks for various reasons – they require activation so they might work only for a few (3-30) days, they might have some nasty viruses and also because one thing is for sure – come October, you’ll have to re-install Windows all over again. If...
