Nokia Lumia 920 promo videos demo its PureView camera, PureMotion screen

Posted in: Mobile phones, Windows Phone 12 hours ago by Peter The Nokia Lumia 920 hosts a good deal of new tech features. The easiest way to figure out what they are is to watch these videos from Nokia, which do a good job of demonstrating them. First is the PureView camera – the 920 has an 8MP shooter with bright F/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens, image stabilization and “best in class” low-light performance. In Nokia’s own words: “It’s not about the number megapixels, but about how you use them”. The 4.5? WXGA (768×1280) LCD screen has something called “super sensitive touch”. We saw it demonstrated live and can detect touches even through thick gloves. It even worked with just you holding your car keys as an improvised stylus. The other big thing is the PureMotion HD+. No, it’s not PureView for video, it’s the successor of ClearBlack. The technology promises pixels that update more than twice faster than competing LCD’s. Nokia is also calling “the brightest screen”, though the official specs ...

Android activations reach 1.3 million per day, total droid count now 480 million

Posted in: Mobile phones 13 hours ago by Ian At the Motorola event held today in New York City, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt confirmed some interesting new numbers for the Android platform adoption. There are some 480 million total Androids in the world as of today. That’s 80 million more than there were on June 27, when we got the latest update. Currently there are 1.3 million new activations per day, of which 70,000 are Android tablets. Obviously the Google OS continues to grow at a staggering rate and despite already dominating the market, it’s not done expanding just yet. View the original article here

Windows Phone 8 camera interface to support pinch zooming and third-party addons

Adding pinch-zooming to the camera interface is nothing to shout home about, but the addition of third-party plugins certainly is. All smartphone users have their favorite photo apps, but imagine having them all inside the main camera interface. That’s what the new camera lenses feature on Windows Phone 8 promises. As Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore demoed today, when you install a new camera-centric app from the Marketplace, it integrates as a sort of a lens, an add-on inside your main camera app. So when you start the camera, you have all the special effects, panoramas and image manipulation tricks, in one place. I love using all sorts of camera apps on my iPhone. Of course, I have several favorites, and I use them interchangeably. They all do the job of taking pictures just fine, but each comes with its own set of nice little features or filters so I just can’t pick a single all-time favorite. Of those, the standard vanilla camera app on the iPhone is the least feature-rich, but unfortuna...

Copy Magic: iOS App Lets You Copy Text Between Devices Without a Network

Cainta, Philippines – Ever been in a situation where you needed to share text or contact info to the person beside you but don’t want to go through the hassle of bluetooth pairing, connecting to Wifi or 3G? Copy Magic is an innovative application that lets you share text and contacts between nearby iOS devices without the use of any network. It even copies data while both devices are on airplane mode! Copy Magic is easy to use and works by just copying a piece of text to the iPhone’s clipboard from your Notes, Email or any app. Once Copy Magic is opened, the text is automatically converted to a special QR code, available for sharing to another device. When this code is scanned by the other device, Copy Magic instantly copies the text to the other phone’s clipboard, ready for pasting to any other app. Unlike other applications that use 3G, Wifi, bluetooth or even sound to transmit data between phones, CopyMagic does not depend on any network or internet connection nor does it require m...
