Guy switches from Android to a Lumia, Nokia decides to film and share the whole story

Posted in: Android, Mobile phones, Windows Phone 18 hours ago by Johnny Oh, this is a “Dear Diary” moment! Christopher Taylor of Glasgow got fed up with his clumsy Motorola Atrix and decided to go down Windows Phone path via the Nokia Lumia 800. Nokia, being in dire need of good publicity, decided to film the freshly-converted Chris and post the story on YouTube. The nerve, right, on Google’s own turf! Christopher gives some argumentation on the OS shift he made. He says that the Atrix wasn’t really fast, the software was “clunky” and the smartphone didn’t have much built-in. He likes and uses Nokia Drive all the time. In Christopher Taylor’s eyes the Lumia 800 looks and feels a lot better than the outdated Atrix. He even goes on to slap BlackBerry along the way saying his sister had one and it crashed all the time. She now too has a Lumia smartphone, just in case you were wondering. We’re not saying the guy was paid or anything but it is a popular opinion in the comments of the YouT...

Get to grips with Contact Share on your Nokia Lumia

Storing people’s phone numbers, addresses and email details in our mobiles is something we now all take for granted, but sharing or adding new contacts can still be a convoluted process. Nokia’s Contact Share app, which is now available worldwide for your Nokia Lumia, makes the task of sharing and receiving contacts incredibly quick, straightforward and simple. Select the contact you wish to share and the next screen will give you a choice of which of their details that you wish to pass on. Perhaps you might want to share their phone number and work email, but not their home address. Confirm your choices by pressing the ‘Tick’ at the bottom of the screen and then you are give...

In response to falling market share, Nokia closes two Chinese sales offices

Nokia’s sales offices in Chengdu and Shanghai are shutting down, Nasdaq.com has reported, Nokia transitions to a new mobile platform and a leaner corporate structure. Also, as its market share contracts, it simply has less need for its formerly fitting infrastucture. The number of layoffs that would be involved were not disclosed. Nokia recently announced, as part of a continuing string of downsizes, another 10,000 layoffs. In that round, three ‘top’ executives stepped down. Those layoffs were designed to curtail costs. Today’s news adds to the scroll of Nokia firings. Nokia previously stated that it intends to ‘invest heavily’ in research and development in the Asian market. That could imply that cuts in the region will be little more than trimmings. China’s mobile potential is massive, as TNW noted in a piece concerning Windows Phone’s slowing growing market penetration there: China is the world’s largest handset market — both in terms of shipments and new device activations — so an...
