Hands On With The Verizon Nokia Lumia Icon

Due to the inclement weather across the U.S., our Verizon Nokia Lumia Icon review unit arrived a little late, but as they say, better late than never! We’re hard at work on the full review, but just wanted to give you a quick look at Nokia’s latest Lumia device. Not only does the Lumia Icon rock amazing specs, a beefed out camera and a sexy design, it came in a huge 007 like case complete with glowing red LED lights inside the case. Also included are red Nokia Monster PurityPro wireless headphones, which go all the way up to 11. Opening the case up kinda made me feel like Ryan Gosling in Drive. And then I was looking over my shoulder for Cylons. So many emotions. Anyway… As far as specs go, this Windows Phone is a powerhouse. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 runs the show, clocked at an amazing 2.2GHz. The Lumia Icon touts 2 GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. A 5 inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD OLED display commands attention, and is protected by a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The screen...

Verizon pushing out Android 4.3 for Galaxy Note 2

Version bump, Galaxy Gear support and other smaller features come with build G8FJ20LB0Q02 Verizon has begun pushing out Android 4.3 to Galaxy Note 2 owners. The update comes in the form of build G8FJ20LB0Q02 which not only brings Android 4.3 to the device, but also support for Samsung’s Galaxy Gear . In addition to Gear Support the update bumps Samsung’s Pen Up app to the same version that is found on the Galaxy Note 3, as well as enhances the Multi Window mode on the device by adding support for more apps. This update also brings a number of smaller fixes like enhanced WiFi performance, extended battery life when using exchange, and updates to many of Verizon’s included apps. The update is hitting many devices right now as an OTA update, but it is also available through Verizon’s Upgrade Assistant on the computer. Have you already received the update on your Verizon Note 2? Sound off below and let us know how things are working out for you. More: Verizon Galaxy Note 2 forums...

Motorola starting software soak test for Verizon Droids

Attention, owners of the Verizon Motorola Droid Ultra, Droid Mini and Droid Maxx: Motorola has just sent out invites for a software "soak test" for the trio of devices. Nothing definite, but that could well mean Android 4.4 KitKat is on its way. (Or it could be a lesser version. We've got our fingers crossed.) It generally takes a few days for the soak test update to push — and it's entirely possible the update will push to everyone — soak test or not — at the same time. It's happened before. Stay tuned. More: Verizon Droid forums ; Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

T-Mobile nearing deal to buy 700MHz spectrum from Verizon

In return, Verizon to receive cash and AWS spectrum in certain markets T-Mobile could potentially be ready to wrap up a big deal for some of Verizon's spectrum . According to a report from Bloomberg , the carriers are nearing a deal to transfer 700MHz "A block" spectrum from Verizon to T-Mobile for somewhere in the neighborhood of $3 billion. Verizon initially purchased the 700MHz spectrum in 2008 for $2.6 billion. Further, the deal may also see T-Mobile transferring some AWS (that's 1700/2100MHz) spectrum to Verizon for certain markets.  If approved by the FCC, the 700MHz spectrum transfer would be applicable to about 150 million people, indicating that this would be quite a large pickup for T-Mobile. The nation's fourth-place carrier currently holds spectrum in the 1900MHz and AWS bands, which is less expensive and fully functional, but can't always penetrate buildings in dense cities properly. Adding 700MHz could be just what T-Mobile needs to round o...

Verizon introduces $5 'Daily Plan' 300MB data pass for tablets

New plan targeted at infrequent mobile data users Verizon is hoping to get more people hooked on mobile data for their tablets with a new $5 "Daily Plan." The new plan slots in below the previous low offering of $20 for 1GB of data each month, and gives you 24 hours of access to 300MB of data, with the plan running out at whichever limit you reach first. The new Daily Plan is applicable to any of Verizon's tablets or connected devices, like a Samsung Galaxy Camera, and can be used as many times as you please. For example you could simply string together three Daily Plans for 900MB over those three days for $15, but anywhere past that and you'd likely prefer to just sign up for a monthly plan or pay the $10 to add the tablet to a Share Everything plan. It isn't exactly the best deal in the world considering T-Mobile is offering any tablet (whether they sell it or not) 200MB of data per month for free , but if you're already a Verizon customer you may wan...
