Amazon gives their Android Appstore a major facelift

Amazon's new Appstore app carries the look and feel of their new Mojito UI to everyone Amazon's Android Appstore  has received a complete new look and feel in the latest update. Version 7 follows the dark UI scheme that they've been using for quite a while, and still doesn't have the standard Android app buttons and controls in the standard places, but it seems well built and responsive. In fact, it looks a lot like the Appstore on the new Kindle Fire HDX devices . This makes a lot of sense, and while we would prefer a more traditional Android interface, we can;t say we hate the idea of Amazon unifying their software across devices. A long-time favorite (come on, you've tried the free app of the day at least once), we know plenty of you guys and gals are using this one. You can check for and update from the settings, wait for the notification, or tap right here for the new version. Thanks, Matt!

Amazon to hold press conference on September 6th

Posted in: Android, Rumors, Tablets August 24th, 2012, 18:56 by Ian It seems like September will be a month to remember, as now Amazon.com have added themselves to the list of companies set to announce a new product. The retail giant hasn’t officially confirmed what it will be announcing, but we are most likely getting a sequel of its highly successful Kindle Fire tablet, which was announced last September. It was no secret that Amazon was thinking of releasing a Kindle successor in Q3 of this year, and considering the Kindle Fire currently controls more than half of the Android tablet market since its release last holiday season, why not follow a formula that worked the first time around? Last year Amazon did very well with the sales in the holiday season, after the September announcement, and it seems like it’s going to try and do it again. What the Kindle sequel will be like is anyone’s guess, although there are rumors of a higher resolution display and front-facing camera to riva...

Amazon Cloud Player adds automatic song match and upgrade feature like iTunes

Amazon unveiled a pretty major update to their Cloud Player service that launched early last year. The update makes the Player more independent from Cloud Drive and offers a free, automatic audio quality upgrade, similar to iTunes Match. The audio upgrade program is pretty neat – music on your hard drive will be scanned and matching songs (that Amazon has the rights to) will be upgraded to a high-quality 256Kbps version and they won’t even have to be uploaded. That will work on songs already in your Cloud Drive (plus you can access the original files). From now on, when you buy a song from Amazon, it will be automatically be imported into Cloud Player too. Songs you’ve purchased previously will be imported too (again, if Amazon has the rights to do so). You can now manually edit track metadata, but you can also just use the data provided by Amazon for your imported tracks. Music used to be stored in Cloud Drive but now the Player will use separate dedicated storage. Your current track...
