Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge renders offer a clear glimpse at the design

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has been photographed in the wild, but a new cache of images has cropped up. They are clearly renders instead of actual photos, but the design appears to match the leaks we've seen so far. This makes them the clearest images of the S6 Edge yet. The renders give us a detailed look at the metal frame and the curved screen that slopes down on the left and right side. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge renders The images also show the protruding camera (a 20MP/2160p shooter), which sticks out quite a bit. The element that protrudes from the other side is the hardware Home key, which houses a fingerprint sensor (the non-swipe kind allegedly). Thanks to Steve Hemmerstoffer for sending this in! Samsung Electronics Demonstrates a Trio of 5G Technology Candidates at MWC 2015

Samsung Electronics will demonstrate three key network technologies at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, which will pave the way for 5G mobile communications. Each technology focuses on important aspects of the Radio Access Network (RAN) and involves networking innovations that will have a dramatic impact on the capabilities of commercial mobile networks. “We consider 5G to be a transformation of how networks are constructed and how radio resources are used,” said Chang Yeong Kim, Head of DMC R&D Center at Samsung Electronics. “To support 100 times greater throughputs at a fraction of the latency, we need to consider more than just a single network component; we need to look at how everything works together. At the same time, the evolution toward 5G must be an incremental process, introducing new technologies in the short- and mid-term that can be tried, tested and proven on commercial networks.” mmWave Wireless Backhaul Utilizing a 60 GHz spectrum, Samsung is rapidly nea...

Samsung Electronics Targets High Quality Data Services with CognitiV Analytics at MWC 2015

Samsung Electronics announces the launch of its CognitiV Analytics solution to provide operators with a powerful, data-driven approach to network quality improvement. The solution combines real-time data collection with efficient congestion relief algorithms to provide in-depth insight into, and resolution of, network traffic challenges, and represents the first new component of its CognitiV OSS portfolio. “Existing industry analytics solutions typically focus on analyzing data generated by either the network or the user data service alone,” said Jungah Choi, Senior Vice President of Advanced Technology at Networks Business, Samsung Electronics. “These two separate approaches can abstract network issues and do not provide true insight into the end user’s service Quality of Experience (QoE). By analyzing the data on a per-user and per-service basis in real-time, CognitiV Analytics pinpoints the root cause of service quality issues as, or even before, they occur, and jointly optimize t...

Samsung Electronics Recognized by Global Innovation Experts

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has received two praiseworthy ratings from two world renowned sources. It was rated the 3rd most visible company in the United States in the Harris Poll Reputation Quotient (RQ). It was also listed as one of the most innovative companies in the Internet of Things by Fast Company. What about Samsung appealed to these sources, and what do these ratings mean for Samsung? The RQ is a study carried out every year to find the 100 most visible brands in the US. Although Samsung is no stranger to the RQ’s top 100 – it has found itself there for four years running – this is the first year that the electronics producer has been ranked in the top five. This means that it was ranked more highly than all other technology companies. What is it that makes a company ‘visible’ according to the RQ? There are many criteria in a variety of areas: emotional appeal, financial performance, products and services, social responsibility, vision and leadership and workplace environ...

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will get Android 5.0 Lollipop in Q2

Samsung is currently in the process of updating a few of its devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop. So if you have, say, a Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, or Galaxy S5 you're pretty much already covered (though some rollouts have only made it to some regions at this point). But what if your device of choice is the Galaxy S5 Mini? The Korean smartphone maker did promise that it too would receive Lollipop, but that hasn't happened yet. And it looks like you're still in for quite a wait. Samsung's French arm has revealed that the S5 Mini is slated to taste the latest version of Android sometime in the second quarter of this year. That starts in April and ends in June. So clearly Samsung's priority is to give its highest-end offerings the software update first, then starting to work on mid-rangers such as the Galaxy S5 Mini. This is no surprise, really, as it's been the company's modus operandi in the past too. Yet if you were hoping for the S5 Mini to receive Lollipo...

Samsung Galaxy S5 for AT&T gets Android 4.4.4

Android 4.4.4 KitKat is now seeding to Samsung Galaxy S5 for AT&T over-the-air. The new OS build brings a number of features to the SM-G900A headed by support for VoLTE. Security updates, bug fixes, and other improvements are also part of the update. HD voice capability, AT&T service additions, and preinstalled Uber app round up all the highlights. Considering that Samsung Galaxy S5 for Verizon Wireless began receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop yesterday, we find it it a tad surprising that its AT&T sibling lags so far behind with the OS updates. Here?s hoping that the SM-G900 won?t stay with Android 4.4.4 for too long. Source View the original article here

Samsung loses its position as India's top smartphone vendor

Just a few days after market research firm Counterpoint noted that Samsung actually lost its title of the world?s leading smartphone vendor in Q4, 2014, it is being reported that the South Korean company has been dethroned in the Indian smartphone market, too. According to a report from market research firm Canalys, with 22% of the market share in Q4 last year, local budget brand Micromax has now become the top smartphone vendor in the country, ahead of Samsung at 20%. The Indian company already overtook the South Korean firm as the leading brand in all types of mobile phones last year. "This incredible performance is partly due to Micromax?s continuing appeal to mobile phone users upgrading to smart phones," the report said. "Its flagship line of products has also very effectively targeted the US$150 to US$200 (INR9,000 to INR12,000) segment, with products such as the Canvas Nitro and Canvas Hue." The third and the fourth spots were also claimed by Indian companie...

Samsung passes the 10 million Galaxy Note units shipped in South Korea

Samsung announced that it has passed the 10 million Galaxy Note units shipped in South Korea mark. The number includes all Galaxy Note phablets, starting from the original Galaxy Note which was introduced back in 2011, as well as its successors, Note II and Note 3. The company hasn’t mentioned the global numbers, but we would have to guess that figure is north of 50 million. Samsung pretty much created the phablet space that includes smartphones with 5.3-inch and bigger screens. Ever since the original Galaxy Note was launched, other vendors joined the trend, with Sony, Huawei, LG and HTC all launching comparable devices. Samsung, however, is still a dominant player in this market, and has consequently launched more affordable Galaxy Mega series. As I’m writing this, we’re waiting to see the first “Lite” Note unveiled, Galaxy Note 3 Lite, which will sit somewhere between the Note II and last year’s Note 3… Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following...
