Shaderific brings OpenGL ES shader development to iPhone and iPod touch

Hamburg, Germany – Gryphos GmbH has released Shaderific version 2.2, a significant update of its OpenGL ES 2.0 shader development application for iOS. Shaderific provides the full range of shader development with the OpenGL Shading Language (GLSL) on tablet computers and mobile devices. Vertex and fragment shader code can be created, edited and compiled on the device and all changes are visible instantly. There is no need to use a personal computer (laptop or desktop) in the shader development process anymore. Starting shader development can be a difficult and complex task for a beginner. Shaderific smoothes the learning experience dramatically by hiding away a lot of the technical complexity, that way letting the user focus solely on the shaders. 18 build-in shaders are demonstrating fundamental development techniques ranging from basic coloring and lighting shaders to advanced texture shaders with normal and environment mapping. The user can start to experiment with these shaders ri...

Discover the latest features on maps.nokia.com

Published by Pino Bonetti on August 17, 2012 We are always very busy updating our mobile apps.  Just recently, for instance, we have released a new version of Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps and Nokia Transport. But mobile apps are only half of the story. In fact, we’re continually updating our web offering so that you can discover new or improved features almost every week. During the past few weeks, we have introduced some cool new features to maps.nokia.com while other improvements have happened under the hood. So let’s have a closer look at what’s changed since the last time we talked about maps.nokia.com. First of all we have introduced more ways to interact with routes and map. Sometimes, in fact, you don’t want to plan a route from A to B, but get a feeling of how far apart two or more places are from another. This is why we have introduced the ruler tool , with which you can measure the straight line distance between two points. And you can also have fun measuring perimeters, like I d...

Posted in: Android, Tablets 18 hours ago by Ian James Franco does more than act – apparently his resume includes being a writer, producer, director and…Galaxy Note 10.1 multitasker? A cool new promo video shows off James Franco’s skills at multitasking with the latest and greatest slate from Samsung. We don’t know who to be more impressed with: James Franco or the tablet. Either way, we had one of them make a visit to our office (unfortunately, it wasn’t James Franco), but you can check out our impressions of the Note 10.1 in our full review. Posted in: Android, Mobile software, Tablets 58 minutes ago by Peter The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE in South Korea is getting updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and the update brings along a number of goodies. Up until now, the Super AMOLED-packing tablet was running Android 3.2. The update brings the usual round of performance improvements, better multitasking and face unlock. Also, the native data tracker feature are a welcome update to keep track of that LTE data usage. Samsung warns that you’ll need at least 60MB free on your device and that there might be some data loss. So, to update the Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE, grab the latest version of KIES, do a backup and then you can start the update. After the update, there will be some changes to you apps – some will be removed, others will be renamed and some might have compatibility issues. The Prenatal Marker Pen ain’t garbage

How a great new invention is saving babies' lives Published by Tom Hall on August 17, 2012 The caption for the article’s photograph reads, “A $1 marker pen designed by Johns Hopkins students is filled with enough reagent to administer up to 400 prenatal disease tests.” The article, breaking down the device, goes on: Every year, a combined 6.3 million pregnant women and newborns die from pregnancy and childbirth complications. Ninety-nine percent of maternal deaths occur in developing countries where most women receive little, if any, prenatal care. So Monagle, now a graduate student at the university’s Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design—along with his engineering classmates Maxim Budyansky, Sherri Hall, Matthew Means, Shishira Nagesh Mary O’Grady, Peter Truskey and James Waring—designed a pen that can identify prenatal diseases early, accurately and far more costeffectively than other methods. In the U.S., the most common way for doctors to screen expectant mothers fo...

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is easy to repair, says iFixit

Posted in: Android, Tablets 20 hours ago by Peter The iFixit guys have no mercy – the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 couldn’t even go a week before being torn to pieces for the greater good. It didn’t put up much of a fight (and that’s a good thing) as there are only a few Philips screws and clips standing in your way when you need to open the tablet. From then on things are pretty easy to detach. There are some oddities (the vibration motor is hooked up to the microSD card slot assembly), but the front and back cameras are separate components, so you can swap them out one at a time. iFixit found a Wolfson WM1811AE audio chip, the same one as on the Galaxy S III, which did very well in our audio quality test. The Galaxy Note 10.1 also packs a dual digitizer, which helps out when you run apps in split-screen mode. Another interesting thing to note is that the 7000mAh (25.9Wh) battery weighs 136g or 23% of the total weight of the device. The final reparability score of the S Pen-enabled ...
