Ask AC: Should I switch phones because updates?

+Russ Clark asks, I have a G2 and it is a great device, but this attention by Moto towards the Moto X makes me wonder if I should sell my G2 and switch. I know you used the G2 for a bit, what input would you have about that idea? We're hearing this a lot. Not necessarily about the G2 or the Moto X , but anytime a phone makes the news because the manufacturer is doing something right, people get interested and start thinking about switching. While the people who make these phones probably love seeing and hearing about this, does it really make sense? Consider why you bought your G2 . Chances are you really liked what it had to offer just a handful of weeks ago when you bought it. Nothing has changed. It's still fast, still has the best camera on any Android phone, and still has a killer LCD to look at it all. The Nexus 5 having Google Now built into the launcher, or the Moto X getting KitKat   before anyone else didn't change any of that. Soon, the Moto X will sto...

Phones 4u extends Note 3 + Tab 3 deal, throws in S View case

British retailer Phones 4u sends word that it's extended its deal offering Galaxy Note 3 buyers a free 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 tablet for another week. And to sweeten the deal, the outlet is throwing in a free S View cover for all orders, both SIM-free and on-contract, placed online and in-store from today. The S View case provides a cutout for the phone's display, allowing you to view notifications and other information, unlock the device and even take pictures while the cover is closed. What's more, 4G contract customers will get a free wireless (presumably Bluetooth-based) speaker in addition to the tablet and case. Phones 4u says the total value of the tablet, speaker and case amounts to more than £300 of free swag. The new promotion runs through until next Thursday, Nov. 28, while stocks last. AT&T looking to “buy something” in Europe

type="html" xml:base="http://www.intomobile.com/2013/06/24/att-looking-buy-something-europe/"> Looks like AT&T is looking to expand to Europe, big time. The American carrier is exploring different options in an effort to take advantage of the current economic crisis looming on the Old Continent. Various reports suggested different things: one said AT&T may be looking to acquire 30% of Telefonica; the other – they’re only interested in the group’s assets in Latin America; and then another – they want O2 UK. Telefonica on its end denied an approach by AT&T had been made. But that’s not all. A Bloomberg report claims assets owned by Vodafone have been considered, and so has EE – the UK joint venture between France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom. Finally, if AT&T couldn’t acquire anything in Europe, they may choose to offer services on an over-the-top basis directly to end-users. Possible candidates include the connected car and digital home services m...

New leak suggests iPhone 5S will rock dual-LED flash

type="html" xml:base="http://www.intomobile.com/2013/06/24/new-leak-suggests-iphone-5s-rock-dualled-flash/"> And yet again we have an “in the wild” photo of the upcoming iPhone 5S to show you. The new leak, provided by MacRumors , shows that the next Apple smartphone will add dual-LED flash to the mix to make for better photos when you take them in low-light conditions. MacRumors also noted that the main chip on the logic board is not labeled with an A-series name like A6 though that doesn’t say us much at this stage – Apple may print the chip name at a later point. Moreover, a date code visible on the bottom of the chip reads “1243″, suggesting that the chip was manufactured in the 43rd week of 2012, corresponding to late October. It’s unclear whether this is the same A6 chip used in the iPhone 5 or something newer, better. Finally, they say the battery carries a more recent Apple Part Number of 616-0652 compared to the iPhone 5 battery, which has carried seve...
