Review: Mini Review: Epson EB-X11

Selling at a mere £409.99 or less online, Epson's EB-X11 is an attempt to please everyone in a compact, highly capable package. Measuring just 295 x 228 x 77mm and weighing 2.3kg, the EB-X11 is made for a life on the move (check out the handy lens cover that instantly shuts off the lamp and speakers), though it doesn't come with any kind of bag or cover. What makes is more adaptable than some is its relatively high brightness rating of 2600 ANSI Lumens - which ought to cope with ambient light - though there are a few limiting factors. Top Christmas gift ideas for 2013 Its 1024 x 768 pixels mean an XGA resolution that does make high-definition images possible, but only just. With no Full HD capabilities (though it can process 1080p images), images are best kept to about 70-inches maximum - but that ought to be enough for many classrooms and boardrooms. Specifications The ins and outs on this 3LCD projector - whose lamp is rated at around 4,000 hours - mark it out as a plain-and...

Review: Mini Review: NEC PE401H

An entry-level DLP installation projector aimed at conferences and classrooms, NEC's PE401H is thoroughly professional - and a tad old-fashioned. Eschewing LED light sources for a traditional lamp that's rated to last 3,300 hours, the user interface on the PE401H shows little change from what we've been using for decades. In an age of apps and media-friendly software, that will be a relief to some, but thanks to a deal with DisplayNote the PE401H has some collaboration-toting presenting software options, too. Specifications The rear of the PE401H is well endowed with sockets much like those found on home cinema projectors. Two HDMI inputs lead the charge, with support coming from a 15-pin D-sub RGB input, a monitor output, and ins for S-Video and composite video, a set of phonos and 3.5 mm audio ins and outs. There's also a USB socket (though it doesn't take thumb drives full of files, sadly), PC control input, and a wired Ethernet LAN input. The PE401H is 3D-ready...

Microsoft to pay Samsung $1 billion to make Windows Phone devices?

Microsoft may soon end-up owning Nokia, but it doesn’t want to be the only game in (Windows Phone) town. Rather, it wants a live eco-system, consisting of a number of different handset makers from all around the world. And if it really wants to succeed – it should corner Samsung. And that’s exactly what it’s apparently trying to do. According to Mobile-Review’s Eldar Murtazin, the Redmond giant is offering $1 billion to the Korean giant so it continues to make Windows Phone devices. This, of course, is still a rumor but it does make a lot of sense. If Microsoft wants to stay relevant in the mobile game, it *must* have the world’s biggest phone maker on its side. The problem, however, is how to convince someone who makes a majority of its money from a competing platform (Android) while also working on its own operating system (Tizen). Then again, no matter how much money Sammy is making these days, an additional billion dollars could help it further improve its standing. The upcoming C...

Android 4.3 for the Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra has started rolling out today, bringing an update from 4.2.2 and some Sony software improvements.
