Review: Optoma ML550

Introduction Pico projectors are something of a gamble. Small and easy to carry they might be, but what they give in terms of portability these pocket-sized projectors often take in brightness and resolution. After all, where's the benefit of a small projector if the presentation it produces makes you look unprepared - and ill-informed? Join TechRadar and get the free 'Week in Tech' newsletter Optoma gets around all of these problems with the ML550, which is the most versatile of all pocket projectors, but the much-needed extra brightness it offers comes with a high price tag of about £470 that, ultimately, could cost it. Specifications We want it all - a small size and a small price - but in reality the shrinking of tech normally carries a premium. And so it is with Otoma's ML550, whose mere 380g weight and 39x105x106mm dimensions put it ahead of a D-SLR camera in terms of portability. However, it's not its size, but its brightness that makes the ML550 the leader ...

Sony Xperia E2 with LTE coming next year

The Sony Xperia E will get its successor next year, Unwired View is reporting. What we knew as an affordable smartphone will this time round come with LTE connectivity support, and probably better hardware under the hood. Speaking of which [hardware], we don’t know what’s cooking in Sony’s labs but we do know what the existing Xperia E is all about. It rocks a 3.5-inch HVGA screen, and we can only hope that next model in the series will take it from there, possibly introducing a WVGA display and perhaps some quad-core processor. These chips are getting cheaper with the day, and Sony doesn’t necessarily has to opt for Qualcomm’s solution — there’s always MediaTek for phones like these. Alas, the hope is that the user experience won’t be as poor (as the specs) now that Android 4.4 KitKat introduced system-wide enhancements which should deliver decent speeds even on lower-end smartphones. We’ll be on the lookout for any new piece of information and get back to you as soon as that makes s...

Motorola reminds us that we still don't have wooden backs for the Moto X

Maybe Motorola are growing their own trees Motorola has taken to Twitter to once again tell us that wooden backs for the Moto X aren't ready. Shown off at the launch event , and talked about every few weeks since , the wooden backed versions are the new Unicorn from Motorola. Put this DIY project on hold. Trust us. We've been trusting you, Moto. A little less " coming soon " and a little more wooden backs in Moto Maker is what we want now. Source: @Motorola

Review: Mini Review: Netgear Push2TV PTV3000

£69.99 We're keeping more and more of our media on our portable laptops, tablets and smartphones, but sometimes nothing can beat watching a Hollywood movie on your big screen TV. The Netgear Push2TV PTV3000 is designed to be able to stream your media from compatible devices and broadcast them in high definition on any device with an HDMI-in port. Unlike devices such as the Cables to Go TruLink Wireless HDMI Kit and the HP Wireless TV Connect Kit , the Netgear Push2TV PTV3000 uses Intel WiDi and Miracast technology that's built into your device to wirelessly transmit video. This means that you don't need two bulky devices hanging out of either end of the stream (one for your mobile device and one for your TV). You just need the one box, which can sit unobtrusively behind your TV. It can be powered from USB or (with an included adapter) from the mains power supply, which is useful. Annoyingly, an HDMI cable is not included, so you'll need to buy one before you hook it u...

Get your new Kindle Fire HDX and pay for it over time with Amazon's new installment plan

Four equal payments and no hidden fees make for a great way to get a new Kindle HDX We've talked about the Kindle Fire HDX tablets before . If you're looking for a great way to consume content from Amazon — that means music, books, movies, audiobooks, the web and apps — there is no better way. They have displays to die for, are absolutely fluid and smooth because of the Snapdragon 800 inside them, deliver great sound and are built well. They aren't a typical Android tablet in any way, but no tablet from any company is better for reading or watching video.  And now, you can get them on four payments. Amazon has a new deal where you pay one installment to get your Kindle HDX , then pay three more 90 days apart. Each installment is 25 percent of the total plus tax for the same exact Kindle as if you paid it all up front. The $229 7-inch version will cost $57.25 every 90 days, and the $379 8.9-inch version comes in at $94.75 per installment. There are no finance charges,...
