Published by Boc Ly on September 5, 2012

TweetThe world’s most innovative smartphone, the new Nokia Lumia 920, has been unveiled in New York and it is everything you need for capturing, navigating and experiencing the world around you.

The Lumia 920 is the first Windows Phone to benefit from PureView imaging technology and the first phone in the world to have physical Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for blur-free images even when your hand is not rock steady. It is the best camera we have ever put in a smartphone to date.

Nokia Lumia 920 Tech & spec:

Display: 4.5 inch Nokia PureMotion HD+ WXGA IPS LCD, Super Sensitive touch, Nokia ClearBlack with high brightness mode and Sunlight Readability Enhancements

Battery: 2000mAh with integrated Qi wireless charging

Processor: 1.5GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4

Main Camera:8.7MP with Nokia PureView advanced optical imaging stabilization and Carl Zeiss optics

Full 1080p HD video capture at 30fps

Front facing camera: 1.2MP with 720p HD video

Memory: 1GB RAM, 32GB mass memory with 7GB free SkyDrive storage

Nokia’s innovative PureView expertise allows the camera on the Lumia 920 to take in five times more light than other smartphones without using the flash, making it capable of taking bright, clear and vivid images even in low light and indoor conditions.

Seeing those images on your Lumia 920 will also look better than ever thanks to another advance pioneered by Nokia. The 4.5-inch screen sees the debut of PureMotion HD+ technology, which means the display on the Lumia 920 will be the brightest, fastest and most responsive touchscreen on the market. Even gloves and long fingernails can operate the screen.

As well as being a smartphone that can hold its head up high in the company of digital SLR cameras, the Lumia 920 is trailblazing the way forward in plenty of other areas too.

The Lumia 920 is at the forefront of a new global move towards wireless charging that will make it easier for you to keep your devices powered up.

You will be able to wirelessly charge your Lumia 920 using a range of exciting accessories, such as the Fatboy™ Recharge Pillow, and even when you’re out enjoying a coffee at your local Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf café, or waiting for your flight in the Virgin Atlantic lounges at London Heathrow or at JFK airport in New York.

As well as all these hardware innovations, the Lumia 920 offers a fantastic and personal smartphone experience with Windows Phone 8.

Nokia City Lens is the latest addition to Nokia’s peerless suite of location-based apps. Among a number of significant improvements, new to its Windows Phone 8 release, Nokia Maps is now available for offline use.

There’s also Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer 10, Nokia Music, multi-platform gaming with Xbox and a range of cool apps and exclusive Lumia content and experiences.

Nokia Lumia 920 in hand

More than ever, it’s time to switch to Lumia.

I would love one of these but I can’t afford one now. Nokia is the only brand phone I use, It’s always the best!

Wow , this is great.  The features just kept coming and coming unlike any phone I’ve ever heard of and they still have more to come on Win8 features.  Love that yellow and that curved screen.  Great charging pillow, speakers and charging speaker.  Looks like we’ll be able to read books in the sunlight.  Why haven’t I heard of all these features on other OEM’s phones, ever??I think it’s because Nokia is better. ..so much better.

Wow, better than my samsung galaxy s3! I SHOULD HAVE WAITED FOR THIS instead of buying it…

Once the lumia is available, will I be able to upgrade even though I’m only half way through my contract? When the new iPhone comes out AT&T gives me the full subsidized price even though my contract isnt over. Will this be an option for the lumias?

Nokia, I’m really disappointed. I was expecting something much better for the camera. Only 8MP? Who are you kidding? Your Pureview 808 has 41MP, why on earth would you give us only 8MP? 18MP would be much better and would place you way ahead the competition.

Micha66

Microsoft has currently the control over the Software. So Nokia has only limited influence.

http://twitter.com/Plathene Plathene

Sensor and MP are not software, but hardware. Pureview was a big move for Nokia, they missed it with the 808 which is a crappy phone, and they missed it with the Lumia 920 which has downgraded camera.

Lovrena

Hmmm.. No microSD support and strong hurt for the award winning PureView brand itself. Nokia 808 has 41 MP 1/1.2? sensor with Xenon flash while the new Lumia 920 has 1/3? sensor with 8,7 MP and dual LED. So not even as “PureView” as the old N8.

I hope to see some *REAL* PureView Lumia model in the future with massive camera upgrade.

http://twitter.com/Plathene Plathene

Yes exactly. I was so excited, I hoped for new Lumias with at least 20MP with Xenon flash and leds for the video (like the 808). Instead, we get this sad little camera.

is that what nokia was teasing that would change everything? LOL! Disappointing!! Frustrating..

when will they learn? today’s competition is all about higher #s – multicore phones,  higher MP count (not necessarily 41). because majority of the buyers are fascinated by higher #s,,, because majority of them don’t read blogs, because many of them don’t read phone reviews.

so what if it produce blurr free images or videos? after all, very few people would be aware of it. & for majority of the buyer, higher/more is better.

Puremotion HD+? Why did they call it like that? Its so confusing,, because when somebody hears it, its so likely that they will think its the “video version” of PureView. Why not just call it CBD+ or CBD HD+?

Sigh…

So don’t be surprised if this phone doesn’t attract much buyers. Specially that the most awaited iphone5 is to be announced next week.

Oh & now i can proudly say I did a right decision – the decision not to wait for this lumia but instead bought a Nokia 808.

http://pulse.yahoo.com/_T74METFPW2E7C7X43PS4HQEF2A En

ah! & where is fm radio & transmitter? hdmi? rich recording? oh wait!! LED instead of xenon? No memory card slot?? LOL!

http://twitter.com/Plathene Plathene

Is it seriously missing all those stuff? What a joke, Nokia!

Richard Maus

I also wanted to see Bluetooth keyboard & mouse.

http://twitter.com/Plathene Plathene

Yes, exactly. Nokia missed their move here. I wish the Nokia 808 was running something else than Symbian, which is a piece of crap.

Nokia can make the best phone cameras out there, and with Microsoft, they finally had a shot at having a nice operating system, which would make the perfect smartphone.

Ondrej Nývlt

Where’s a blue variation of Lumia 920? I don’t like red and yellow, but blue Lumia 800 looks great. And lots of accessories are blue too. I think blue Lumia 920 could look great and fill the empty gap.

Frankyzilla

I own a Lumia 800 and I am absolutely delighted with the new Lumia 920. The innovative camera, wireless charging, city lens, NFC, LTE and the new Windows Phone 8 OS are all wonderful and a far cry to the iPhone. The new larger 4.5inch screen and the range of colours especially the yellow one. I hope though Nokia would add a luminous green colour instead of the grey one and continue with the cyan colour too. The decision to have the glossy finish is a decision I fully support.

xnay

First of all – Nokia, pleas give a “warm greetings” to the people responsible for the live streaming of this event, because you failed completely. Imagine if you announce an event and also the live broadcast, many people (like me) are waiting impatiently for it to watch, and you failed them. Please, prepare better next time you’re going to do a live broadcast, there are many companies that can do it right.
——

Now to the phone itself (920):
I’m thinking – either you were unable to put the real PureView into a WP 8 device (as many expected) or you did it on purpose and are preparing another, real PureView phone. Or you just wanted to cut costs. And why the hell the glossy finish? Don’t you read phone reviews, don’t you know people prefer matte finish? 920 = great fingerprint magnet. OK that’s my 3 cents of bitching ;) .No – what I have to say – as a Galaxy S3 owner I must say – congratulations, especially for what you did with this camera sensor and also for some interesting apps. This phone can really be called a 900 successor. Not some minor improvements like SGS2–>SGS3. I really wish Nokia success because you’re the most innovative company, especially when it comes to camera/photo/video department. For example – let’s look what innovative Samsung did in the camera when comparing SGS2 to SGS3 – nothing! In general – what other manufacturers did? -Almost nothing, HTC has put some accent on camera features but nothing special generally, except that F2.0 lens.I wish you success and I’m waiting patiently for a real PureView device ;) .

judazuk

well Apple sure don’t ..they never live broadcast anything  :)

So am I!

Me too

http://twitter.com/dalydose Jeff Daly

I have been really excited to see this phone announced and put on display.  There is a TON to be excited about.  There is just enough missing that I’ll probably keep my Lumia 900 and wait for the second wave.  Why???

1.  There doesn’t appear to be removeable/upgradeable storage. This is going to be a big deal.  Those camera features are going to take up storage.  Those multiple image “lenses” things and the 1080P video are all going to require lots of space. Not to mention offline maps, other apps, music, etc.

2.  8MP camera – I know, I know…the mantra is that pixels don’t count and at a certain level that is true. The sensor and glass (lens) are other, arguably more, important factors in image quality. Pixels DO count though.  The best use of more pixels in this case is lossless digital zoom.  Even with 16MP, if you set it to shoot at 8MP, you can zoom in 100%.

There is so much to love that I’m glad that I have these holding me back from paying retail so I can keep my Lumia 900 and get a Surface tablet. Hopefully on the next wave of Lumia, they will upgrade the sensor not try to convince us that pixels don’t matter.

Oh…I hope that swappable cover comes to the 9-series, as well. That’s pretty cool!

http://twitter.com/Plathene Plathene

You’ve got it right. No MicroSD is a big no-go.

About the camera, not only are there only 8MP, but there’s only a led flash, and probably no rich-recording. Pureview 808 has 41MP, rich-recording, xenon flash and double leds for videos.

Why on earth didn’t they pack at least 15MP with a Xenon flash?

http://twitter.com/Hdrules Hdnimavat

wohoo! Nokia have done it! just saw OIS feature demo video of awesome image/video stabilization of Lumia 920's pureview….Looking forward to get hands on it!

http://twitter.com/jGRite GhaV jGRite

:/ I need more storage so… I’ll be waiting for one of these with a SD card slot. They got 64gb micro cards now.

http://profiles.google.com/igormaia88 Igor Mikhail

And what about a cyan Nokia 920? =(

http://www.facebook.com/yoligon Yolimar Gonzalez

yeah bring the cyan back for the 920

http://www.facebook.com/gmiguel83 Jorge Miguel

This phone looks gorgeous in red. GORGEOUS

http://www.facebook.com/agent0bean Winsly Jucar

…like owning a ferrari in red…hmmm, saving my money for this…

Thomas Walz

wow, thats a really great phone. folks, a SD card slot is not all, 32 GB are really much, what is space if you have a bad camera ?? i have a lumia 800, and i would do nearly anything to get such a cool phone! i already try to convince my friends of a lumia windows phone.

http://www.facebook.com/sc1dgp Shraman Chakraborty

i do the same, tell frnds to get a Windows phone .. but all they undersatand is all about No. of cores and megapixels craze with latest android… gosh when will these KNOW IT ALL people understand practicality..

judazuk

Does the Nokia Lumia 920  have Rich Recording, an almost forgotten but amazing feature of the Nokia 808?

…  if you get great and stable videos, what does it matter if the sound in them is crap…  i really hope you just forgot to mention Rich Recording …

Disappointing camera..but still an amazing phone otherwise.  … cant be worse then the camera in the Lumia 800 that is a joke compared to the N8 and even the N9, and i still love the Lumia …I just cant take any good pictures with it ..   but i got two Nokia N8's for that *Lol*  and soon a Nokia 808

http://conversations.nokia.com Ian Delaney

I know that Dolby are involved on the audio side. We’ll seek further details.

judazuk

Thank you  :)

Looking at the specs  i found this :
Audio recording features:Mono with high volume capture  This unfortunately does not say much  :)   can it handle 146db like the Nokia 808?  …   to bad its just mono, but I’m more interesting how high volumes it can actually handle

http://twitter.com/Plathene Plathene

No it doesn’t. Such a shame that the 808's amazing camera is coupled to such a shitty phone (Sorry but symbian sucks).

Avatar Roku

So much cutting edge stuff here:

-Springs around the entire optics assembly for image stabilization better than DSLR

-Incredible low light image performance with the f2.0

-768p HD display with pixel density higher than Retina

-HDMotion+ display with 2.5x faster pixel transition speed than all other phones

-Wireless charging with Qi standard rolling out to retail locations

-Synaptics Super Sensitive Touch lets you use phone with gloves or nails

-NFC pairing and wireless charging speakers

-Cinemagraph photos for Harry Potter style animated photos

-SmartShoot so you can erase people and objects from photos Back to the Future style.

Nokia is doing an amazing job innovating and moving the smartphone industry forward.

http://twitter.com/Plathene Plathene

Please tell me why they only packed 8MP when they have the technology to put at least 20MP (Pureview 808 has 41). For me that’s a no-go.

kellyghendricks

If you had a current Lumia device (900 or so) you would realize that its not all about the number of megapixels. The current Lumia is 8mp, but the sensor is pretty bad. A better sensor will go a lot further than just taking larger pictures.

http://twitter.com/Plathene Plathene

A pureview 18 MP with the right sensor would be amazing and surely better.

http://twitter.com/dalydose Jeff Daly

It’s not ALL about the pixels, but the pixels DO matter. Like someone said above, I was hoping to get lossless zoom and now that’s not really going to happen.

http://profile.yahoo.com/G33ZGDV6AWT3DAQM7AYFIZV6BU yahoo-G33ZGDV6AWT3DAQM7AYFIZV6BU

How big do you want to print?? ,-)

gadgety

It’s about the print, it’s the lossless zooming, while maintaining sensitivity. How will this camera act when zooming. In addition, oversampling raises Image Quality. This not on the 920, despite having other innovative aspects.

i really really love the new lumia phones. it is so much more than i was hoping for. can’t wait till the come to germany.
but i have a question concerning the colours: what about cyan? and are all colours glossy like the yellow? hopefully not. i liked the matt finish of the black lumia 800/900… is the black lumia 920 similar?

Kaacz

Don’t wait. Buy anything of new smartphones many months before Lumia. :p Nokisoft epic fail…

123321

please troll anywhere else. thanks for your advice but i can decide on my own. and i will buy a lumia 920 in black or grey. just got the info that those colours come in matt finish.

http://twitter.com/TheDallasFann Robert

I was all over this until I realized it had no external SD. What the heck. You put it on the mid range device but not the flagship. Another missed opportunity for Nokia and MS.
Motorola announces a phone today that will be available in 2 weeks with pricing and we cant even get where the 920 will be released or when.

http://www.facebook.com/sc1dgp Shraman Chakraborty

it has 32GB of internal storage.. isn’t that enuf for anyone? the 820 has 8gb internal so its got microSD card slot..bt 920 alone has 32GB… people hardly use 16GB in their daily life.. want more space thn buy a tablet with external HDD support.. anyways a phone should be primarily a phone with good backup, nokia has always delivered it… and thesedays Androids are Battery suckers… so for day to day practicality Windows Excels, watever the manufacturer(Nokia, samsung,HTC or watever)… Though Battery was never Nokia’s issue.. anyways would be glad to know the pricing of the 920 and 820..

ESjones

Every windows phone should come with a premium 100GB Sky Drive account.  It will be a big selling feature, it will cost Microsoft next to nothing, it will keep people in the ecosystem, people won’t complain about no micro SD. But either way I am buying this phone.

123321

:D :D 100GB skydrive for free? :D and what are you dreaming about at night? who will pay that? microsoft? nokia? that will never ever happen. 25GB and now 7GB for free is much more than on any cloud of competitors.

ESjones

A whopping 50 dollars of profit out of Microsoft pocket to significantly increase the success of their phones.  Easily they will make more than that off the app purchases of the people who end up buying their phones.  Sell more phones, increase use on those phones, make more money.  Plus, most people wouldn’t ever use that much space anyways.  Giving away a free feature that costs the company nothing if the people don’t use it anyways (which most won’t) is pure marketing genius.  And then who would buy an iphone with 32GBs when the wp8 has 132GBs!

Kaacz

Great piece of HW. But with MS forced OS. Godbye Nokia. N9 forever ( for rest of his life with 2 spare N9 ). :(

123321

do you just say that because it has windows phone in the name of the os? or did you ever heard a single piece of information about the upcoming os?

http://twitter.com/nra101 Atif A

I have used the N9. My WP7.5 is better than that, let alone WP8. You have no idea what you are talking about. I bet your next phone will be an iPhone. People who don’t know anything, buy an iPhone. People who think they know a lot, buy Android. People who know what the future is about, buy Windows Phone 8.

Can it transfer files to a computer using a standard method, such as USB mass storage, bluetooth or microSD card? The good camera is a lot less useful if this is not possible.

junecrisfrye

Yes Same 8MP and other feature as the other older phones, but it is a WP8 feat…. sooner or later they will upgrade for faster processor and henge upgrade feature…. Nokia just adjusting their products

It still has no Adobe Flash though. How frustrating. What is the point competing with the iPhone when this phone doesn’t have flash. I don’t care if Adobe says it’s phasing flash out. Today there are still lots of flash websites out there.

Meizu Russia confirms “Ubuntu rumors”

Yup, just as we’ve told you before, Ubuntu is coming to a Meizu smartphone near you. We still don’t have the official announcement, but details keep coming.,, The latest information (or that’s confirmation) comes from Meizu Russia, which says that Meizu engineers are in fact working on an Ubuntu version of the Meizu MX3. The work is apparently still underway to make things stable, and in the meantime they [engineers] are also working on a new version of Android-based Flyme ROM for both the Meizu MX2 and MX3, adding that Ubuntu won’t be released until the updated Flyme ROM is launched. It is said that Meizu will use Ubuntu as its ticket to the US market later in the year. At that time, we may also see either a revamped MX3 model or the whole new MX4 smartphone that will sport even better hardware under the hood. As usual, we’ll be on the lookout for any news coming from the Ubuntu camp and let you know as soon as we have something new to add. Stay tuned… [Via: GizChina] Dusan has been...

AppId is over the quota London, United Kingdom – Dorada Software today is pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of the 2.0 update to the popular “RSSRadio” podcasting application. RSSRadio allows users to subscribe, download and listen to podcasts on both the iPhone and iPad. “With the recent release of Apples “Podcasts” application the bar has been raised for look and feel in these kind of apps and its harder to stand out from the crowd” says Daniel Broad, owner of Dorada Software. Daniel further explains “Competing on features can often be the a default choice, but I decided to go the extra mile and invest in a professionally designed user interface, concentrating firstly on the iPhone but for iPad also. I think RSSRadio now looks great, and is even easier to use.” RSSRadio 2.0 is available today on the App Store, in both a free and paid version. Both versions have advanced features such as: * Push notifications for new episodes * Location based background downl...
